This is one of the less expensive clamshell enclosures from a reputable brand. Clamshell is better than sleeve design to ensure the thermal pad stays in place while closing.
Tool-free opening is a bonus.

I agree, I have one of these, and the clamshell design is nice, and while I'm always been concerned about heat, it hasn't been a problem.

Every enclosure I tried has overheated if I push it while connected over USB-C. If I have to do a big copy, I do it over USB-A. It's slower, but never overheated that way.

This case has an actually good thermal design so this shouldn't. I've been in a situation where another enclosure failed, but moving the drive to this one then it worked.

I got one of these back in March to put a sk hynix P31 512gb ssd into to work as a DVR with my Shield and it hasn't skipped a beat so far.. Heavy writes as well since I have catch up enabled too.

This is a nice one at a low price, but keep in mind that it's 10 Gbps (so roughly 1 GByte/s) and if you want to more fully utilize your NVMe SSD's speed potential, you might consider a faster (and more expensive) 40 Gbps enclosure. Of course, the OP one is plenty for most uses and perfect for one-off data migration from an older laptop SSD and then glorified USB-stick purposes. As others mentioned, the faster you transfer data, the more heat is an issue so the 40 Gbps (and faster) enclosures need more heatsinks and increased cost.

You have to get an energy efficient NVME drive to not overheat.

Lexar NM790 or SK Hynix Platinum P41 / Solidigm P44 Pro should be on the short list for external drives. I use this enclosure with a NM790 8TB to do full disk backups and it never overheats even while running full speed for a few hours at a time.

Also, the enclosure listed here is ABS trash with a plastic clasp. Get this enclosure instead. Aluminum shell with a brass nut + screw to secure the drive down.

The only thing 40Gbps gets you is faster burst reads and writes, and there are use cases for this like 4k video editing from an external enclosure. For sustained transfers though, there's not a drive available that can 2500 MB/s read or write (20Gbps), and not overheat and throttle back the speed. Closest I've seen speed wise is the Lexar NM790 I mentioned previously, and that's why I use it. For comparision, I tried a WD SN850X 8TB first, and it overheated to throttling within 15 minutes during a sustained transfer. Wasn't much faster than the Lexar either when I cooled it with a mini-fan just to see what it could theoretically do over an hour or so of sustained data writes.
