i just googled "The absolute best months to see the northern lights in Iceland are September, October, and March. These months offer the ideal sweet spot of long, dark nights and the heightened geomagnetic activity associated with the spring and fall equinoxes"

You will not see the aurora borealis as in the headpost's picture in Iceland (the picture is the Lofoten Islands of Norway, btw). You will likely stay in a large to moderate hotel in the city and be offered "northern lights gazing trips" outside. But you will see some northern lights better than in US. You could get more or less the same view in any Scandinavian country in late fall/winter.
To see auroras like in the picture, you will need to travel far, far north and away from the cities.

Yes, September is a good monthSmilie However, seeing the northern lights is tricky. You will want to stay away from Reykjavik because the light pollution can make it tough to see the lights. Stay outside the city and get a hotel that has a northern lights wake up call. You can search for Iceland hotels that have a northern lights wake up call. The prices will vary from moderate to luxury. We stayed at HOTEL RANGA and saw the lights twice . Having a wake up call let us skip staying up in hopes of seeing the lights. In addition, there are many apps that you can download to get notifications for the lights. Smilie Hope this helps. Seeing the lights dancing across the sky is a once in a lifetime experienceSmilie

Can i bring my husky and just push her big furry butt under the seat? Haha this is on my bucket list and to see the northern lights with her.
