Word of advice to the guys out there: never take a girlfriend to a premier spot like Bora Bora specifically IHG Thalasso Spa. That's strictly wife-level territory. I redeemed myself by taking my wife to Jade Mountain St. Lucia for our honeymoon, but viewing those old Tahiti photos or speaking about that experience is off limits until I recreate that trip with her.

LMAO, I have a few countries I can't speak of because of the same issues.
Take a 30 min ferry to moorea and stay on the resorts there. Much more exclusive and where the locals go for a vacation.
Moorea is beautiful. For myself and my wife, we stayed at the St. Regis in Bora Bora for our honeymoon. The same place they filmed the movie Couples Retreat. Probably one of the nicest places I have ever stayed at.

We did all 3 islands and Moorea was definitely the best, unfortunately they shut down the Intercontinental there. It was a controversial place because they had a dolphin habitat where you could swim with them.

Sweet deal for a beautiful resort. Are the other islands nicer? Sure. But if you are going to a resort you are probably there for the amenities. The IC has a private lagoon with a turtle rehabilitation area, multiple cabana-style bars, great service, and the over-water bungalows are really nice. Rent a car and drive around Tahiti sight seeing for waterfalls or checking out public beaches along the coast. Once you get away from Papeete it's pretty chill. Get some gas station food while you're at it - not the barely-meat hot dogs and burgers shit you get in the states. Splurge here and then go island hoping on the cheap, relatively.
