my simple points about most of them
1. Garmin has already indicated Fenix9 is coming out by end of 2026 instead of 2027 which will push all prices down since better features/software on Fenix9 - check sites like GarminRumors .com for news
2. Never buy a Garmin over $500, as soon as factory refurbs are available from customer returns, they are "like new" and sometimes HALF the price, eventually
3. I've owned Garmin for two decades now, there has been a SERIOUS degrading of quality in their support, hardware and especially software since 2020, IMHO there is no Garmin worth over $500 anymore because of actual competition from other brands finally after all these years
personally I'm looking to exit the Garmin universe after all these years,
too many bugs and lack of features

Garmin fēnix 8 Pro is a rugged all purpose multisport watch that stands out for battery life, dive and outdoor features, and built in satellite InReach. The flashlight, offline music, full map access, and physical buttons add real everyday utility, and the AMOLED screen makes notification photos easy to see. The 47mm size can feel bulky and snag on things, and AMOLED may shorten battery life. It is a feature packed option if you want one watch to cover a lot of ground.
The watch can display Ring notification pictures clearly on the AMOLED model.
The watch can run multiple CIQ datafields at once for richer on-device metrics.
The watch supports direct music downloads and includes a flashlight for everyday use.
The watch can integrate Satellite InReach features so location notices and pictures send from the watch.
The 47mm model can snag on things during everyday movement.
AMOLED use can shorten battery life compared with non-AMOLED expectations.
Software updates can increase battery drain and require forum checking to troubleshoot.
The watch can feel bulky or thick for formal outfits and some non-diving use cases.

I've been looking but brands like Coros and Amazfit are not there yet
but this is why I am saying don't sink too much into a Garmin because there will be better very soon
Garmin keeps releasing lower end model with as much or even more features than last year's flagships
But Fenix8 family doesn't even have maximum memory (ram not storage)
Fenix8 family only has 128MB though it can at least run four CIQ datafields at once unlike previous models
so if it helps
these are the only garmins with full 256MB
I have a Fenix 8 and a ton of other smart watches. Fenix spends the least time on my wrist. Watch is just to bulky for what it does. My Huawei gt 6 seems like a better fitness tracker mixed with smart watch features.
My sunnto race 2 was a good balance of size and display and metrics but notifications were terrible.
Oneplus watch 3 and 4 is great but the app seems lacking.
Amazfit balance 2 is pretty damn good too, but not a fan of the app UI. Its not to bad.

"The watch is too bulky for what it does".
You bought a higher end garmin with tons of specialized features. Then complain about the size when they make a lot of cheaper smaller watches that do all the things you need it to do. That's like using an 18-wheeler to go for your weekly groceries, then complaining it takes up too much parking space.
Went through a fitness phase.
Was told Garmin was the best.
Battery life made it more attractive at that time.
Now it's being outdone by others.

I originally chose it because I occasionally SCUBA dive and wanted a dive computer that wasn't overly bulky, but could also handle everyday activities like running, workouts, soccer, and casual wear. Basically, I was looking for one watch that could do it all, and this one comes pretty close.
The watch checks almost all the boxes. It offers excellent battery life, good enough smartwatch features, and the ability to download music directly onto the device, so you do not need to carry your phone when running and listening to YouTube Music or Spotify. I also find the flashlight function surprisingly useful in everyday situations.
That said, it does have a few downsides. One of them is the thickness. It is still a bit bulky, even though it is on the slimmer side for a dive computer. So it does not really go well with more formal outfits like suits, even if you swap the band. Also, like a lot of devices that try to do everything, it ends up being good across the board but not truly great at any one thing - diving included.
The price is another thing to think about. If you do not dive and are just looking for a regular fitness tracking smartwatch, there are more affordable options out there. Other Garmin models, as well as watches from Apple or Samsung, can do the job just as well for less.
Overall, though, if you are looking for a versatile smart watch that can handle everything, this is a solid choice.
