I guess it is my age showing but Damn this is expensive for the bare minimum in supplies. I know it is even more expensive other places which frustrates me even more.

Why don't you share why it is expensive, what the alternatives are and what the expectation should be and why, instead of the blanket statement that no one can act on? Your insight could be really helpful.
You can get the pack and solid items all for under $20 on temu or ali, so you have to ask yourself is $30 worth it for 4 pouches of food, some milk mix, and the equivalent of 4 bottles of water

Its really hard to call this expensive. the freeze dried meals alone are worth more than $50. This isn't meant to go off grid and build a cabin. This is meant to keep in your car and survive if you get snowed in and stuck in a remote place; or if a hurricane or other storm displaces you without time to collect supplies when you are under stress. Its small, compact and just a grab bag that you can keep without much expiring. Trying to assemble this all yourself, I'd say each item would be $5-10, if you went to the big box store down the road, this would be a $200 trip, minimum. You may get better stuff, and a package more sorted to your needs, but this is very convenient to have as a base set. I'd throw in a cheap leatherman-like mulit tool and call it a day.

Personally I don't think your average Costco would survive 5 days if they needed this kit but that is an entirely different conversation.

Semi jokes aside...I personally think they should have omitted the prepacked water. The Aquatabs aren't a bad touch but I think a small filter and / or more water disinfecting tabs would have been of more use than (5) 4oz bags of water which is so little it isn't even worth storing...especially since water would be required to prepare the freeze dried meals as well. You would (in theory) still be required to supply a vast majority of your own water (and that isn't counting cooking).

FWIW, you could of course make a much better kit for less but buying a kit is always preferred vs the hypothetical kit that 99.9999% of people claim they'll make some day but then never do. That hypothetical kit isn't much good in an emergency but sounds great in the comments section of a deal website Wink

...yes? How much is a pouch of freeze dried food, like $5 minimum? The equivalent amount of rice a roni is like $3 so I imagine it's at least $5 if not $7-8. So that's $20 right there on the conservative side. Condensed milk is $2. The bottles of waters would be another $2 if you bought them in a bulk pack. That's $24 minimum for those items. Something from a reputable store that costs roughly the same as Temu is a great deal. You've actually made the case that it's a steal.

If you don't think you could do it better and cheaper, then it could be a good deal for you! I'm not judging

You could probably fit a map and compass in the pack, too.

If it comes to this point (ie war), would it not be better to leave?
