If in no hurry, might be better to hold off for the RZ30 to return to this price.

It's newer, preouts, independent sub outs & access to Dirac Live Bass Control.

B&H and Adorama have the RZ30 at $800 right now; easily worth the extra $100.

I would add, unless you need the extra two channels, IF you even found the RZ50 for the $595, the RZ30 brand new for the extra $105 would probably still be a better buy ime.

Best Buy OB/refurb has been a big hit n miss and DLBC isn't as beneficial on the RZ50 with its parallel/mono sub outs.
The RZ30 is much newer & very capable.
The power difference will likely yield very little if at all any sonic difference ime.

Nice...I bought the Onkyo RZ50 about 2.5 years ago for like $585 at the Best Buy outlet

I kept it almost 2 years and sold it ( in 1 day) for what I paid for it

Nice unit ...I really enjoyed my ownership
if I hadnt changed my speaker situation I would probably still own it today

What about your speaker situation required sale of the RZ50? What did you end up moving to? Can you contrast that and the RZ50?

Myself and several others took advantage of them changing some of the Best Buy Magnolia locations and blowing out a lot of their store display models

The sale also afforded me to buy and try a few AVR's at firesale prices

I settled on a Marantz Cinema 30( to replace the Onkyo RZ50) for like 65% off MSRP along with a grouping of Kef R meta speakers at similar discounts

I Could agree with you, Totally fair. The RZ30 is a great receiver, but for what I paid for the RZ50, I wouldn't have picked the RZ30 instead. The extra processing headroom and upgrade path tipped the scales for me. If I was paying current retail prices, I'd probably look a lot harder at the RZ30, but at my price point the RZ50 was a no-brainer. 👍

Price obviously played a big part of it, i initially had the Onkyo - TX-NR7100 9.2. So this was not a match for the RZ50.

I honestly didn't realize Best Buy kept selling so many open-box items until I started building my setup. Pretty much my entire system came from Best Buy Open Box Excellent. Out of everything I bought, maybe 1–2 items were closer to what I'd call "good" condition, but the rest arrived looking brand new, many still sealed in the manufacturer's box.
My setup is an Onkyo RZ50, Sonance VX66 in-wall L/R, Sonance VP66 LCR center, and four Klipsch CDT-5800-C II speakers for Atmos. For the prices I paid, it's hard to complain. Open box has been very good to me so far. After i tested them all, now moving to install each one of them. So happy with the price and as you are saying, at the time i decided to move on, because of whatever speaker situation comes, i just sell it at the price i got them.

Best Buy/Magnolia open box can be a gold mine
It can be hit or miss( on value)...but sometimes they will just blow things out at 65-70% off MSRP
If you dont mind doing the work you can find some incredible deals

I assume due to their sheer volume they have buy back options from the manufacturer so Best Buy might not be taking the financial hit it looks like on these blowouts

Years ago the speakers that are the core of my main system....Bowers and Wilkins CM series...I bought about $12K worth if speakers for $4K

Last year I bought a Marantz Cinema 30 and ten various Kef R meta speakers for 65% off MSRP

All the items come with a full manufacturer warranty from your date of purchase

If you ever sell them later because you are moving on/upgrading to something else, they are worth no less than those where people paid a much higher price

Ditto with televisions

Been there done that many times
