The Legion Tab Gen 5 is an 8.8 inch Android gaming tablet that stands out for handheld emulation and PC game streaming or translation, with support for systems up to PS2 and many Steam, Epic, and GOG titles. The hardware also gets praise for two USB C ports, a microSD card reader, and the ability to sideload apps after a 24 hour wait. The main knocks are the high price, no fingerprint sensor, no cellular connectivity, and face unlock that only works for basic tablet unlocking. Chinese ROM versions can be switched to English and Google services, but they may receive updates more often than the US version.
Handheld gaming fans who want an 8-inch Android tablet, because it handles emulators up to PS2 and can run many Steam, Epic, and GOG games.
Portable entertainment readers who want easy unlocking and expandable storage, because it has facial unlock, dual USB-C ports, and a microSD card reader.
Controller-based players who use a tablet as a handheld, because 8 inches is described as the sweet spot and it pairs well with GameSir G8, Kishi V3, or abxylute S9.
People who need fingerprint login or secure biometric app access, because it has no fingerprint sensor and facial recognition may not clear Android's secure-biometrics bar.
No fingerprint sensor and no cellular connectivity are listed for this tablet. Unlocking relies on password, pattern, or facial recognition, and the face unlock is mainly for opening the tablet rather than secure app logins.
Some listings are for the Chinese ROM version. It can be switched to English and Google services plus the Play Store can be installed, and the Chinese ROM is also associated with more frequent monthly updates.
Yes. It can emulate up to PS2 and run many PC games from Steam, Epic, and GOG through x86 translation layers, with the Gen 5 handling most titles except the most demanding ones when compatibility is supported.
Yes, sideloading is supported, but it requires a 24-hour waiting period before installing non-Play Store apps. Many emulators are already available in the Play Store, which reduces the need for sideloading.
You're paying for gaming/emulation performance with the Legion... And Android, because its more free still... I've heard that google will be locking down Android to be like Apple iOS though.
You will still be able to install apps that arent from the Play store. It will just require a 24 waiting period. Even with that, many of the emulators are already on the Play Store.
iOS sticks indeed and I don't enjoy it. But iPad mini has a killer screen, fingerprint sensor, and cellular connectivity - all for $300+ (barely used last gen model). Compared to this, I cannot take 8" Android tablets seriously.
You should be taking them seriously. I agree that Apple's tablets are true workhorses (I use one daily), but the level of restriction on many competent open-source apps is crippling. The level of true customizability on Android for app devs to create and promote cool tech just isn't comparable on iPadOS.

I absolutely don't dispute it and I would pick an Android device over Apple one every day. But I am not a tablet power user - my use case is lot of reading, watching educational videos and classes, occasionally buying some stuff. Easy unlocking and connectivity are very important factors - much more important than ability to run newest games (who does serious gaming on tablets anyway?!)
$700 tablet. No fingerprint sensor (read, you will be punching in your password or pattern. A lot). No cellular connectivity. I guess there might be a couple of hardcore gaming cases this product answers but I find it amusing how iPad Mini continues to be such a better value prop for the rest of us...
Has double USB C ports and a MicroSD card reader.... That alone makes it better than an ipad just from entertainment consumption alone
You can install whatever on Android and fit it in the MicroSD
it being literally the only non-random-China-company 8in tablet geared toward hand held gaming/emulation is the real joke here...
these things are fantastic when you pair with a GameSir G8, Kishi V3 or abxylute S9.
8'' is the sweet spot for device with this use-case, larger is horrible and bulky.

For $780 you can get the 16gb + 512gb in Aliexpress (free shipping) right now
For what it's worth, I managed to get it down to $645.69 + a free case and screen protectors.
The case and screen protector came from the new user deals. For the device, there's a specific $770 or so listing of the 16gb + 512gb. Along with the $90/$100 off $599 that comes around once in a while and store specific coupons (which I have no clue how to manually trigger), it came out to $645.69 ($771.69 - $33 - $93) before taxes for me. It has the Chinese ROM but you can set the language to English and install Google's services and play store if you want to.

Very true, you are right. Foolish

No one can agree on anything these days on sick deals.

That is what I don't get... why does China seem to get updates before the USA and they get them a lot more frequent.
