The Glycine Airman, the first watch capable of tracking two 24-hour time zones, has been used extensively in commercial and military aviation, as well as in spaceflights; notable examples include its use by United States Air Force pilots during the Vietnam War and astronaut Pete Conrad during the Gemini 5 and Gemini 11 spaceflights.
Glycine Combat and Airman watches stand out as slim, comfortable Swiss automatics with strong fit and finish, especially for daily wear. The Sellita movement at this price is a solid value, and buying direct adds the full manufacturer warranty. The main knocks are weak lume on the Combat Sub and the need to ignore the inflated MSRP marketing, since $360 to $400 seems closer to the real street price. The Chief also gets praise for its slim, clean look, though the 24 hour dial takes some getting used to.
Daily wear watch buyers who want a thin case, because it wears comfortably under 11mm thick with exceptional fit and finish for the price.
Yes. The Combat models wear very well at under 11mm thick, and the thin case makes them comfortable enough for daily wear. The fit and finish is also described as exceptional for the price.
The $1,000+ MSRP is not the typical street price for these watches; $360-$400 seems to be the normal range. The watches are still considered solid at that actual selling price.
Buying directly from Glycine can be advantageous because it includes the full manufacturer warranty. Similar pricing may be available from Ashford, but the direct purchase keeps the warranty intact.
These Glycine Combat watches are great watches and underrated. These wear really well at less than 11mm thick. The fit and finish is exceptional at this price. Not an investment by any means but a great daily wear watch that'll last for generations.
I just love Glycine watches. I own the Combat GMT GL0380 (Coke), GL0388 (Pepsi) and a quartz Airman GMT Worldtimer. Only thing that would be better if the Combat's were available in 39 or 40mm.
The only complaint I have for my combat sub is that the lume is weak. Other than that it's a great daily wear because of how comfortable the thin case is.

I have The Chief with a navy blue Chris Ward strap and it's my favorite watch. Slim. Clean. And interesting. Does take some used to reading the 24 hour dial.

that was the most impressive thing about my rolex submariner beyond the feel of it and the time keeping, the lume was so amazingly bright.
I just can't bring myself to spend that much knowing that they are now owned by Invicta. Soon the MSRP will be $8,000 on sale for $199. Just not a big fan of the super inflated MSRP marketing.

How are you defining soon? Glycine has been owned by invicta for almost 10 years now... when are you expecting this other shoe to drop?

The lume is reportedly weak on the Combat Sub. The tradeoff is a very comfortable, thin case that makes it a strong daily wear watch.
