I bought two filters that can be cleaned. Swap it out, wash the dirty one with a hose and let it dry. After two years, I cleaned the unit - coil was like new...

Some other advice: use a marker to make arrows for airflow direction, always install them in this direction. It also makes cleaning easier. I just use a hose in the opposite direction of the airflow. Shake off the water then stand it on its end of the corner seam against a wall so water can drain out. Once a year I'll use a degreaser cleaner. I have had these filters for 3 1/2 years with no medium degradation so far.

thanks for sending. i am looking for 4" furnace filter that are alternatives to the the aprilaire ones. bummer they seem pretty expensive on this site. oh well - will keep looking
