I'm going on an international trip this summer and need a new large suitcase. Not looking for anything fancy, just durable. Probably in the $100-$150 range? I tend to spend more on carry-on bags because I use them a lot more, but the large one usually only get one trip per year.

Any tips on brands or good places to look are appreciated!

Someone introduced me to hardcase luggage from Away Travel a few years ago, and it was a game changer. Incredibly durable, well-designed, built-in zipper locks, and great customer service.

It isn't cheap, but it's one of those rare brands/products that once you try it, you'll end up wanting to replace all the other luggage you own with it. It's so worth the price.

If you can get a deal on one or find one on a secondary marketplace (resale sites)...Tumi is long-lasting and worth a few extra $$.

Our basic hardside set was purchased at BJ's Wholesale 15+ years ago and is only now starting to delaminate. Can't find the name but they rebrand their items a lot.

We also picked up an older Ricardo soft-side piece for free (FB freebie group) and bought replacement wheels. Worth it considering the bag originally went for $150-200.

That's how I feel about nice t-shirts. Could never understand paying $60+ for a t-shirt until I got one and now I don't think I can go back lol

Ross and Marshalls have some quality discounted travel suitcases of all sizes. I like Nautica and Samsonite softcase suitcases. The hard shell suitcases can crack and are not as expandable. Good luck!

Thanks! I'll check them out. I think the last one I got was from TJ Maxx and it's held up pretty well despite being fairly light weight and thin.

My wife travels a lot internationally for work. If you want durable, it's not about the brand, but the design. Anything that copies the original Samsonite Oyster is what you want--hard side clam shell with gaskets, continuous piano hinge, and 3-point latches. These designs are superior to almost everything. Her Samsonite S'Cure is going on 10yrs plus now with a single wheel replacement. We noticed the airline crews using the exact same model after her owning it for 2 years. It's still available in Canada, but I know it was always hard to find in the US. But Samsonite will every few years have a model with similar design with a different name.

American Tourister and Samsonite are sister companies, so I have the exactly same design bag in the American Tourister Tribus. I can't tell you how many trips I've been on with them over the last 6+ years, long haul domestic and international.

Delsey also makes bags with these design elements as do a few other companies. I don't even look at brand or price anymore--if it has these elements, I know it's quality. Nothing else even compares.
