Bose QuietComfort headphones stand out for comfort, physical controls, and solid noise cancelling in a lightweight package. Refurbished pairs have arrived looking brand new with factory style packaging, wrapped cables, and no obvious signs of use, and the sound quality has been described as good. Replacement ear pads are available, which helps with long term ownership. The main knocks are the thin, fragile feel and the fact that this is the standard QuietComfort model, not the Ultra.
Commuters who want comfortable over-ear listening, because the headphones are reported to feel more comfortable than Sony XM5 and XM6 while still sounding good.
Listeners who need a fully button-free premium model, because the Ultra version is criticized for lacking buttons, creaking, and auto-sleep that cannot be turned off.
Replacement ear pads are available, with prices mentioned around $34.99 to $50 depending on the source. That lowers the risk of buying refurbished because worn pads can be replaced instead of replacing the whole headset.
The refurb units can arrive looking brand new, with only the box indicating they were refurbished. Packaging, wrapped cables, and overall condition can look factory-fresh, suggesting many are customer returns that have been cleaned up well.
They use physical buttons and switches, not touch controls. That makes them easier to operate and avoids the touch-control issues found on some competing models.
They are described as very comfortable and more comfortable than Sony XM5/XM6. The Bose fit is also paired with physical controls, while Sony's touch controls and talk-through are noted as less convenient.
These are the standard QuietComfort headphones, not the QuietComfort Ultra. The Ultra is the higher-tier model and is the one with Gen 1 and Gen 2 versions.
It should be noted that these are 1st gen (as the 2nd gen ones exist).
I tried to research your comment but I cannot find a 1st and 2nd gen Bose Quietcomfort. There is only 1 gen of that model that I can find, a successor to the QC45.
Can you please inform me what you are referring to? Obviously I'm trying to see what the difference is between the 1st and 2nd gen.

Good catch! I overlooked the model. These are the normal Quietcomfort headphones. Bose has the Quietcomfort Ultra, which is a step up from this model. Those are the ones that have a Gen 1 and Gen 2. My previous comment can be disregarded.
