This 20 inch Perfect Aire box fan stands out as a strong air mover for the price, with even low speed pushing a surprising amount of air. It is also being used for white noise and DIY air filter setups, including Corsi Rosenthal builds and HVAC filter attachments. The metal construction gets credit for holding up better than plastic fans in long daily use, though it is louder than many fans and may not be strong enough for every filter setup. A solid budget pick for circulation or simple filtration projects.

If you're thinking of making a Corsi-Rosenthal air purifier out of this, make sure you test the air strength on this unit. I don't have this one. But I have a $20 fan from Walmart, and it's not strong enough to make me feel more confident. Test it soon before the return date expires. At least it's cheaper than Walmart version.

Can attach this to hvac filters to make your own air filter.
I never thought of that but its a good idea. Just be sure to attach the filter to the air intake side only, and use the least restrictive filter possible such as a MERV5 rating at most.

Can you attach a filter to this one? I bought a different box fan and it has the plug directly in the middle on the back. Making it very difficult to install a filter. My current one just broke a few months ago and was waiting for a new one to go on sale

Get 4 20x20 merv 13+ filters and make a CR box. It will filter air better than any fancy air purifier and the filters will last 6 months+.

Make sure you sign up for Ace online account. I have been using $10 off $10 and other Ace REWARDS EXCLUSIVE
current is: $5 off $30
Exp. 2026/06/17
Some items that are on sale or clearance don't stack with these Ace Rewards, but I tend to save up my Ace trips and have gotten a lot of freebies--broom and dustpan, shampoo/conditioner, clear gloss spray sealer, and other discounts over the years on needed stuff.
Thank you OP, good deal and timely!

Some fans aren't optimal for this;

There is worry that it will put excess strain on the motor, or that it's not powerful enough with a filter mounted directly on the air intake side.

They do sell box fans that have a slot for a MERV filter on them such as this https://us.amazon.com/Lasko-FF305...B089P1Z38J
With a beefed up motor

You want to start at merv 13 to have any health benefit otherwise it's just a dust filter. Cleanaircrew website has the details.

I leave my fan on almost 24/7 to circulate air and as white noise and wfh so the plastic fans can't take that 24/7 abuse. After 3-4 months the individual plastic prongs start chipping away and fall apart. No issue with these metal ones.

It is louder than most fans so that gets a bit of getting used to but now I don't hear it.
