Eh deal, saw value is ~$400, stand value is not $200 IMO, I'd pass as you can get slicker. Solid stand though if you're on the fence, and one hell of a saw!

Ive got the 779 too. The 780 has a laser guide which I think is the only major practical difference

To be pedantic, 780 isn't really a laser guide, it casts a light around the blade so you see a shadow right where the blade goes. That feature is pretty clever - in theory you can see exactly where the cut will happen, without needing to account for blade thickness or tune the alignment of a laser. There is some noticeable slop in the system though, so in practice a cut might still deviate from that shadow line (usually well under a millimeter).

My main issue with the 780 is that the sliding rails can get a bit stuck/sticky. I haven't investigated much yet, but I assume some fine dust is getting inside the sliding mechanism where it might be hard to clean.

Got the deal a year ago for the DWS779 and smaller stand for $287 Sold my old Makita 10" slider and the cheap Dewalt stand it came for to make a free upgrade.

Unless you really like Dewalt branded stuff, I would get just the saw and buy a ~$150 stand with wheels on it.

Agreed, this saw is on sale almost monthly for $400. Depending on your needs and want case the well-liked and reviewed rigid miter saw stand with wheels is $190 regular price.
