As others have said, there's not really a gentle/low setting. What I do when I want less wind is have the fan blow into the ceiling and not directly down on me.
It's a cheap fan and serves my purpose, which was mostly wanting a remote that my old one did not have. If I get a few years out of it, I'll be happy.
To the question about the LED staying dimly lit, it does not.
