in4one thank you, I was about to pull the trigger on a 4 bay for 100 bucks. If this sucks, i'll get back to you in a day or so. about 72 bucks after tax
4-star rating makes me nervous. It's a cool concept as I have a TON of drives I want to erase/back up my nas to, but I assume this won't really actually save me time with transferring content?

I have the 2 bay version, and you can use it as external storage, there's a mode switch in the back to use it as a standalone Cloner or for regular PC use. The one annoyance that I found with my 2 bay variant is that when you insert the 2nd drive, it momentarily ejects the first drive, then loads the 2 drives one after another. It's terrible if you're actively transferring data and using that 1st drive at the time and wanting to add another drive. You basically have to wait till it's not using the first drive before you add the 2nd drive. I don't know if this 5 drive version has the same behavior but since from the same brand and product line, I assume it would.
