I mean you can wear shoes like this and still stay in a budget. Not to mention you could sell these used for half the price you paid if you needed to (assuming you took care of your pair obviously).

Things like sports gambling, etc. are a far bigger issue financially, especially with how much they are marketed to minors, etc.

Pretty much everyone who isn't in the 1% club is a financial slave to the system, given how much wages have been stagnant and inflation has risen the past few years. Meanwhile all of our corporate overlords have been seeing record profits at the expense of the average worker. AI is only going to continue to exacerbate this as well.

Are there people alive who have seen Chuck Taylor play basketball? I honestly don't know anyone who has seen Les Paul play guitar live or who has seen Stan Smith play tennis, to this point.
