Why would someone choose this over the MX-7 for $1.90 more?

The MX7 is harder to spread, but I read that it was better.

This is double what I normally get the 4g tubes for...and there's a post for $2.80 just a few days ago. I'm assuming these are paid promotion posts right now...

Glad I got mine last week (3x which was the max per order) when they went on sale for $2.87 each.

Depends what you need it for and their relative prices. I wouldn't use MX-7 if I wasn't for sure leaving it in place for a while. It's better but harder to use for the inexperienced. It's also much newer so don't have years of people seeing how it lives up to the claims. MX-4 will also often go for like $3-4 a tube and plenty good for most people in most applications. My main desktop with an X3D I used MX-7 but put MX-4 on the rest of my systems (including my 24/7 activity server).

i build computers to sell and i use MX-4 by the tube. stuff is great and holds up well. i don't spread, just draw an X on the IHS and screw the cooler on. I used Noctua thermal paste for years but this stuff seems to do just fine for a fraction of the price.

Thank you. I guess we can't trust the deals posted anymore unless we know the going price. Sucks to lose that trust. Good going Slickdeals team.

Well why would anyone use either when you can get a high quality thermal pad from thermal grizzly for 20-30 dollars more that will last for decades and is reusable and is many times more effective at heat transfer? I use thermal pads for the wife's and my own pc's but use cheap paste like this for everything else. I'm thinking of buying some thermal pads for both of our GPU's as well.
