You overblow this a lot, but if someone is new I wouldn't recommend it. Gigabyte/msi/asus etc go off serial. So something like this will more than likely have warranty anyway. For troubleshooting, you can run OCCT tests / windows memory diagnostic to rule out a ton of issues. #4 is not always the case for everyone as someone can be building a new pc with this.

Used/open-box mobo has to be the worst idea to buy for building a pc cheapily lol.

1. There's no legit "test" to make sure all the features are in working order. In other words troubleshooting is a pita

2. There are some features you might not use till months later.


3. Claiming warranty from OEM is a shit show.

4. Replacing your mobo is basically like rebuilding a whole pc because you have to disassemble everything in it.

I guess it depends how much you value your time and how much you love trouble shooting. YouTube Greg Salazar. Lol that's the troubleshooting you're going to have to do if anything goes wrong.

Not doubting if it has warranty or not. Just pointing out the possible headache one would have to deal with. And it's pretty high possibility considering it would take weeks from the date of filing warranty claim

#4 Yep, I meant that as for new builds. Putting it all together and then finding something wrong with it months later. You're gonna have to gut everything out and put everything back in basically.

I don't think I'm overblowing it. Lol I'm speaking from experience.

I purchased the GIGABYTE - Z790 AORUS ELITE X WIFI7 new when it came out and it's been a pretty good board overall. It does have issues with DDR5 though. I have used 2 different Corsair 32gb kits and it just won't run them in XMP you eventually get bluescreen or some app's crash. So I just leave the XMP off and everything runs just fine. At this price I grabbed one as a backup.

ive been watching for part deals and bundles while i plan to build a new pc, so i was considering this until you mentioned the open box possibility. this will definitely be sitting around for a while before i buy everything i need, so probably not worth the risk. thanks for the insight

You may need to very slightly increase the VCCSA/VDD2/VDDQ voltage if you haven't tried that already. Had to do that with a Gigabyte z790 running 2x32gb. Now it runs stable with XMP speeds.

Also replacing the MB will require re-activation of Windows and MS Office.

What's dumb take. I've purchased tons of open box motherboards and rarely had an issue.
