I didn't buy this brand, but I've been surprised that the ones I bought for my wife 2 years ago haven't suffered any major malfunction yet.

I provided a laundry list of precautions: water hole first, use drill with clutch and side handle (1/2" Ryobi hammer drill), use Harbor Freight digging bar if any rocks are encountered (but in the event that said rocks need to be pried out of the ground, we need a different style of bar to avoid bending.) But these are not particularly deep holes. Ours came with an extension, which I would highly recommend if used while standing.

I've had these no for a couple of summers. They are excellent! Yes, they will auger into dry soil. Just becareful with the drill setting. It doesn't feel nice when your drill twists your wrist when you meet significant soil resistance.

These work great for loose to semi hard soil. If it's hard soil the chuck will spin in the drill. Not a bad thing to have for raised beds and it's quick tilling

Yes I've had a random cheap one of these for years that works great even in dry compact southern red clay soil. I use for digging holes for bulbs and helping loosen the dirt when digging large holes for large plants. So helpful!

Yeah these work great in dry soil. Planted 400 grass plugs with them in hard clay soil and no problem other than the going through about 10 drill batteries. Def worth it.

They pull the dirt up out of the hole.
