Ordered the slickdeal this morning and already delivered. Tried the lemon lime and it is awful. Bad chemically flavor with metallic aftertaste. Guess I'll stick with the expensive Propel packs for now.

What kind of people buy these and what are their activity levels ?
I buy electrolytes for long hikes, 10-15 miles in hot weather and for similar distance runs. While it might be argued, not only dehydration but also lose of salts and possibly other minerals can cause muscle cramps

article: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/arti...MC1150229/

Quote :
Results: Nine participants experienced cramps in the carbohydrate-electrolyte trial, compared with 7 in the hypohydration trial. Of the 7 individuals who had EAMCs in both trials, exercise duration before onset was more than doubled in the carbohydrate-electrolyte trial (36.8 ± 17.3 minutes) compared with the hypohydration trial (14.6 ± 5.0 minutes, P < .01).

Conclusions: Consumption of a carbohydrate-electrolyte beverage before and during exercise in a hot environment may delay the onset of EAMCs, thereby allowing participants to exercise longer. However, it appears that dehydration and electrolyte loss are not the sole causes of EAMCs, because 69% of the subjects experienced EAMCs when they were hydrated and supplemented with electrolytes.

Most people who buy them do not need them, but they buy them because it's trendy and "healthy." They offer no benefit to most people and therefore are not "healthy." The main people who benefit are endurance athletes and those doing more than 60 minutes of high-intensity exercise. If doing high-intensity exercise in high heat or sweating profusely due to other reasons, like wearing lots of clothes/equipment, then under 60 minutes qualifies. Some examples of who it actually helps: football players (especially high school athletes doing two-a-days in the summer), ultramarathoners, century cyclists, etc. Again, the keys are high-intensity, duration, and/or high amount of sweat. If not doing any of those and if not taking due to some medical condition, these have no benefit, but, obviously, people are free to choose what they drink but they may as well pay far less for flavored water additives, otherwise they are just wasting their money. They are not even helpful for the general person who workouts. If you run/jog for 30 minutes, no help. If you lift weights, no help (unless doing some high-intensity workouts such as HIIT, extended CrossFit sessions, etc.). If you play a couple of pickup basketball games, no help.

Been making my own. Potassium, Redmonds and carbonated magnesium water.
Same. I use potassium chloride, magnesium malate (no laxative effect), and regular table salt (zero scientific evidence that sea salt is healthier). I use a pestle and mortar to grind the potassium chloride and salt so it dissolves easily in water. I often mix it with true lemon flavor packets that only contain 1g of sugar.

You're missing an entire market…you know how many people work outside in the heat everyday? Construction, landscaping, lawncare, mechanics, farmers, loggers, the list goes on but all of them need to replenish electrolytes throughout the day.

When I was doing Jiu-Jitsu 4-5 days per week I would drink one during training. Coach would turn the heat up to 90 degrees to make it super uncomfortable and I'd cramp up every time in my calves and biceps. 99% of people don't need anything like this. If you do anything where you train hard and lose alot of water these are helpful.

Quote from contagiousD-25 :
Yeah, the sodium makes it difficult for me to want to buy. If I drink it. I have to drink it in smaller portions because of all the sodium. sodium is known to run up blood pressure and I have to be careful with my sodium intake because I'm sodium sensitive. That's disappointing it got 400 mg
The sodium is literally the entire point of this supplement. It's meant to replace whats lost during intense exercise. The dose is actually on the low side. Lmnt is way better with 1 gram of sodium.
