This Midea 50 pint smart dehumidifier is best known for strong moisture removal and long-running basement or bathroom use, with the built in pump making drainage easier than manual dumping. Several long term reports describe two years or more of steady operation, and the phone app is genuinely useful for monitoring humidity. The main drawbacks are noise, noticeable room heat, and a humidity sensor that can run below the setpoint or short cycle. Pump failures and occasional odor or fan issues also appear, so it suits spaces where performance matters more than quiet.

For what it's worth.. I have the Midea cube 50pint with pump. It's been on everyday pulling out 7.5 gallons daily. Kinda loud but we're used to it now, white noise. No complaints, it's the best of the worst

we've had much better luck with Frigidaire or Friedrich dehumidifiers than the Midea junk

A lot of one star reviews. Anyone have or had this?
I've been using one for 2 years and it sees nearly constant use from spring through fall. It still works, but it hasn't been perfect. It removes a lot of humidity though. The built-in pump died after the first season (bummer) and it will often get annoyingly loud like the pump is struggling and then go back to it's normal volume. I'm waiting for it to crap out so I can get a different one, but it's still chugging along.

Used mine for a year now. Pulls out a lot of moisture from the air and IMO it's quieter than some of the older models I've had in the past. I don't need to use the pump and can just connect a hose and let gravity do the work. Not sure if the "M" shield/ionizer does anything, but it's decreased my white mold/mildew that I used to get in a part of my house.

I bought one last summer. It's the only dehumidifier I've ever had so I can't compare, but it puts out a lot of heat, making it not great in the summer. It's also pretty loud, even on the low fan setting. You won't want it running much in a living space. It does a good job dehumidifying, though.

I have the smaller cube version and it's been excellent for three years in a Maine basement. It's dramatically better than the GE model it replaced. The built in pump is the pinnacle of luxury if you've been manually dumping for years.

i had hisense one from costco and worked ok for 5 years in basement. about 4 hours per day during summer. After 5 years it still runs but almost no water collected. I am guessing needs freon.
Some youtube videos show people refilling freon with some one time plug/piercing thing into pipe but didn't want to try lol. Bought midea last year and worked well last summer. Will see how it goes this summer. I heard people returning dehumidifies even after 6 years to costco since small appliance and not subject to 90 days electronics policy. But costco stuff scrutinize returns more closely now.

Mine had the pump fail within a year. It was powered in full time but only ran when it needed to for the 40% setting in my basement. The hygrometer built in it is wildly off for whatever reason so it was running often. My two other hygrometers were consistently the same with each other at around 35-40%. I ended up returning it and buying another one on sale. The pump feature only empties when it is full. Waiting for this one to fail and so far it's been only a season. I'd buy again from Costco.

I purchased this unit from Costco about a year ago, and the sensor has consistently malfunctioned. I set it to 60%, but the machine refused to stop even when the humidity dropped below that level. The only way to turn it off is to power it down completely. Despite this issue, I find the machine effective at removing humidity, and I keep mine in the living room. However, the noise it produces is quite loud.
I think this is by design. Every dehumidifier I've used does this. They will take it 3-5% below the desired setting. Likely so it's not cycling on and off constantly.

I bought this right at two years ago, from Costco, for 170. I've now used it in two different >3k sq ft 1960s southeast Texas houses with little to no vapor sealing. I have not used any of the fancy features, just manually switch it on and off and manually empty the reservoir.

It is a bit loud (especially with the blower on high speed) but works very well. Haven't noticed any changes in sound or function in two years. Cleaning the filter often is very easy and cleaning the reservoir occasionally is not difficult.

The layout of the house I'm in now makes a single dehumidifier less effective; I might pick up a second at this price.

Thanks for the reply. I set mine to 60, and even if it drops to 54, it still runs. One of the main drawbacks for me is that it also generates a lot of heat. By the way, how can I reduce the heat that the machine blows off? I appreciate your help in advance.

Pretty sure it's not suppose to stop until it gets to 55% if you set it at 60%... there's a buffer.
I'm certain mine has passed 54 and below when I set it to 60, and it still continues to run. I thought my sensor was malfunctioning and lazy to return because it does do a good job removing moisture from the air.
