my use case is bathroom dehumidifying during showers bc theres no exhaust fan. this is very high humidity removal for like 20min a day vs what i will be purchasing a new unit for my basement likely running 24/7 until dead winter.
Community Reviews
This Midea 50 pint smart dehumidifier is best known for strong moisture removal and long-running basement or bathroom use, with the built in pump making drainage easier than manual dumping. Several long term reports describe two years or more of steady operation, and the phone app is genuinely useful for monitoring humidity. The main drawbacks are noise, noticeable room heat, and a humidity sensor that can run below the setpoint or short cycle. Pump failures and occasional odor or fan issues also appear, so it suits spaces where performance matters more than quiet.
Common Questions (5)
Yes, it is reported to pull a lot of moisture and work well in basements, bathrooms, garages, and humid climates like Long Island and southeast Texas. Users also note it can reduce mildew and keep up with near-constant use when properly drained and maintained.
It removes moisture well, but it is commonly described as loud, especially on higher fan settings, and several owners avoid using it in bedrooms or living spaces. Some find the sound tolerable as white noise, but it can also heat the room noticeably.
It may run a few percentage points below the setpoint, and some units are reported to read inaccurately or short-cycle. Setting the target about 5% lower than desired, or using an external hygrometer, helps it behave more predictably.
Several owners report 2+ years of reliable use, including 24/7 basement and shed operation, while others saw failures in the pump or the whole unit within a season or two. Keeping the filter clean and draining it properly appears to help it stay efficient.
The pump can work well for a while, but multiple reports say it failed after about one season to two seasons of use. A practical workaround is gravity draining or using a separate condensate pump instead of relying on the built-in one.

Some youtube videos show people refilling freon with some one time plug/piercing thing into pipe but didn't want to try lol. Bought midea last year and worked well last summer. Will see how it goes this summer. I heard people returning dehumidifies even after 6 years to costco since small appliance and not subject to 90 days electronics policy. But costco stuff scrutinize returns more closely now.
It is a bit loud (especially with the blower on high speed) but works very well. Haven't noticed any changes in sound or function in two years. Cleaning the filter often is very easy and cleaning the reservoir occasionally is not difficult.
The layout of the house I'm in now makes a single dehumidifier less effective; I might pick up a second at this price.
