my use case is bathroom dehumidifying during showers bc theres no exhaust fan. this is very high humidity removal for like 20min a day vs what i will be purchasing a new unit for my basement likely running 24/7 until dead winter.

This Midea 50 pint smart dehumidifier is best known for strong moisture removal and long-running basement or bathroom use, with the built in pump making drainage easier than manual dumping. Several long term reports describe two years or more of steady operation, and the phone app is genuinely useful for monitoring humidity. The main drawbacks are noise, noticeable room heat, and a humidity sensor that can run below the setpoint or short cycle. Pump failures and occasional odor or fan issues also appear, so it suits spaces where performance matters more than quiet.
The dehumidifier can run for years while still removing a lot of humidity from the air.
The built-in pump feature can simplify drainage by automatically discharging condensation when full.
The unit can be effective for bathroom dehumidifying when there is no exhaust fan.
The filter cleaning routine can be quick, which helps keep airflow and performance practical.
The fan noise can be loud even on low settings, which can make it unsuitable for living spaces.
The built-in pump can fail within a season, and pump-related noise can also indicate trouble.
The humidity sensor can be inaccurate and may refuse to stop at the setpoint, requiring full power-down.
The unit can produce a burning plastic odor after running, which can require returning the dehumidifier.

You can try running it during cooler parts of a day or ducting the heat elsewhere. If you need things both drier and cooler, an air conditioner is the way to go.
It's still loud and I wouldn't put it near a bedroom. That's true for any of the bigger units.
My only real complaint is the humidity sensor is wildly inaccurate with the unit on. This leads to constant short cycling. I control the unit via an external hygrometer with Home Assistant and it makes the unit perform much better for the electricity it consumes. I'm very happy with it controlled externally, but I would've found a different unit if I had to rely on the internal sensor.
It should only draw large amounts of power when it's truly pulling water out of the air. Sure, the fan takes power too, but the amount of energy consumed is proportional to water being taken out + fan/etc overheads. If you set it to dehumidify forever but there was no water to take out of the air, then you're effectively paying for a slightly inefficient fan (radiators causing extra air resistance that a normal blue fan wouldn't otherwise encounter). For all these reasons, I just set and forget without work about the extra cycling. That works for Lazy Me.

It can still make sense in a limited case, such as a bathroom after a shower, where you mainly want to move warm, dry air out of the small space and replace it with relatively drier household air. But that's more like using the dehumidifier as a crude drying/exhaust strategy, not an efficient way to cool and dehumidify the same room.
That's why this is the better solution: "If you need things both drier and cooler, an air conditioner is the way to go."
