Why not? Since it's after all the CENTER speaker that actually carries 60-80% of all the output during "surround" sound viewing, does it not make perfect sense to get the biggest baddest center you can?

This one has FOUR 6" bass woofers, TWO 5.25" dedicated midrange woofers, and the same famous AMT folded ribbon tweeter found in all the Emotiva speakers, providing extended and crystal clear highs with zero harshness, unlike many metal domes. EAsy for any receiver or amp to drive with its 90db sensitivity, and the 40Hz F3 provides nice full mid-bass, so that male voices don't sound like chipmunks as happens with many lifestyle systems, tiny centers or soundbars.

I wonder how this would sound in a stereo pairing. Perhaps the dispersion would be different if this was made to stand on one end as a tower speaker.

All of Emotiva's asymmetrical center speakers have rotatable tweeters, so they are designed to work vertically as well as horizontally. In theory, vertical would eliminate any "lobing effects" present in the horizontal configuration.

Yes they do...especially the XC1 now going for $229.

And unlike SVS, they don't use the center speakers as gateway products to make you buy overpriced bookshelves and overpriced towers to "match"---their towers and bookshelves also have excellent price to performance.

As long as you are not running it full range without a subwoofer doing the low end, AND are a volume freak playing at ear-bleeding reference levels (+85db), AND sit much farther than the typical 8-12ft away---yes, the Onkyo will be fine.
