Walmart+ flat tire repair is a free, practical fix for normal passenger tires when the damage is safely repairable, and it can save the $18 to $30 many shops charge. The benefit has worked on tires bought elsewhere, with some locations turning repairs around quickly and others taking much longer. Access depends heavily on the store, since many Walmarts do not have Auto Centers and some locations refuse low profile tires, aftermarket rims, run flats, or tires that are too worn or unsafe. Calling ahead and checking the local shop's rules matters.

Thanks for posting this. Can you put a link to the plug kit you keep in the car. Should be much faster than getting the tire to WMT and waiting
This kit ensures that the plug is inserted at the correct depth. Otherwise, the plug can pop out. You can find it at Autozone. I use this technique to plug a tire. Zero failure since 1987. No need to rebalance the tire.

1. Remove tire and pressurize to 30-40 psi.
2. Remove nail and quickly insert reamer all the way in.
3. Generously apply rubber cement (metal rubber cement can available at Autozone) to reamer for lubrication and ream until hole is round (less friction when sliding reamer up/down). Leave reamer in the tire.
4. Slightly spread open insertion tool with screwdriver to insert string patch. Make sure both ends of the string patch are the same distance in the insertion tool.
5. Generously lubricate string patch with rubber cement (leave string patch straight across).
6. Make sure tire pressure is +30 psi, remove reamer and QUICKLY push in the insertion tool along the same angle as the reamer.
7. Pull insertion tool straight out and drive for 5 min or use heat gun to heat repair area (rubber cement starts to bubble) to promote bonding between the tire and the string patch.

Plugs are a "temporary" repair.
Incorrect. The spray crap is a temporary repair and needs to be cleaned out before plugging the tire. Most repair jobs done at shops are patches. DIY is trivially easy. Jack the car, spray soapy water to find the hole if it's not obvious, plug, pressurize, drop the car.

Just went to American tire yesterday they told me they patch tires, rotate, balance all for free even if you don't purchase the tires through them. Mount and balance new tire on rim with TPMS $28 if you purchased equipment at a different store and have them install
Wow I knew they did free patching and tire pressure but had no idea they did free tire rotation as well even if you didn't buy from them

We are going blind off of your claim. There is a zone, for some shops it's 1/2" and for other's it's policy that the hole must be at least 1" away from the sidewall or they will not patch. It doesn't need to literally be on the sidewall, just close to it. It's hard to imagine that any reputable shop wouldn't patch your tire unless it was on the sidewall, OR too close to the sidewall. I suppose the third option is that the tread is just so far gone. Legal liability matters. In any event, that's not a negative on DT and the fact that you work on your own cars doesn't change that. There are plenty of unqualified people who do dangerous things and work on their own cars so telling us that is irrelevant. You also don't need to remove a tire from the rim to insert a plug; so it doesn't sound like you know what you are doing.
Spot on. Guy is not telling the full story here but if he is telling the truth about it not being sidewall or 1in near sidewall the other reason could be he is trying to patch run-flat tires. Turns out some run-flat tires cannot be plugged or patched (must be replaced) as stated by the manufacturer. Found that out the hard way with pirelli run-flat performance tires. Never bought that kind again

After having been around the Walmart Auto Centers enough buying batteries and such, having to wait to be served, I can tell you that the people that work at these shops HATE to do work. They will find any reason to avoid work. I would not trust them. They denied a lady for having an Alfa Romeo and then denied another lady because she had an electronic dip stick so they couldn't do an oil change. Totally horrible service.
if you hate walmart then just say that lol I got a flat when out of town.. can hardly remember which state.. but anyway.. they tried to to say i had to buy a pair and i declined.. but they eventually did the service. The wait wasn't too bad. I actually remember another time too. same. And one time i had a trailer tire break bead and pop off, i went to the back door and ask if they could reset the bead.. and like 3 of them came out and they did it, and didn't charge me anything. So i'm not too unhappy with them.

No. This tool already make allowance for the extra amount of the plug that remain inside the tire. Twisting will make it more difficult to extract the tool, pulling more of the plug out of the hole. The goal is to extract the tool in one quick pull without disturbing the plug. The bonding process starts when you insert the plug into the hole. Applying heat will expedite to bonding process.
