While smoking the brisket, we were seeing some probe connectivity issues inside the house (which stinks because it's the upgraded wireless version and we were probably 30' away). To see if it would help, a family member turned the unit off and one. What a mistake that was. The app completely reset the cook, custom alarms, everything, losing 2 hours of progress but also data that it uses for the estimated time to complete. To be fair, that estimate was all over the place from the start. I had hoped this would get better over time and the restart didn't help. Even still, another 4+ hours of data and the thing fluctuated between 1.5 hours and 15 hours with about 10 degrees left to go. Pretty useless.
The weirder part is that, once the unit was turned back on, the ambient temperature reading was offset by 25 degrees too high. For the first few hours, the ambient temp was spot on with the grill temp gauge. After the restart and resetting my high (250deg) and low (150deg) alarms, I was getting a high temp alarm in the app at 250deg as request, but now the grill showed 225 deg. And I never could get it to show right again. The best I could do is offset my temp alarms by adding 25 degrees, but certainly not ideal.
Thankfully, Thermomaven so far seems great to work with and is trying to fix the situation. At $50, it's a good deal if you get a working one. Just don't turn it off mid-cook. If you don't rely on the ambient temp sensor or the estimated time to cook, you'll be good.
Has anyone dealt with this? Is there a re-calibration procedure?
