Best investment I ever made. Saved me many potential tickets. Not the best of the deals though.

Anyone have experience with this or the flagship r8 version? Live near mountainous roads so curious how it works on curvy roads. Seems to work very well in other scenarios.

I usually get about a mile warning with this on ka band. Far enough that I can't see them when I get the warning

I drive to work and back home on a really curvy road in the wooded area, and it picks up about 1/4 mile (roughly 1000 to 1500 ft) away. Though, on straight open roads, you would have no issues and would pick up almost a mile away.

I have the R8. Absolutely love it. Arrows are a game changer. My wife has an R4. I notice hers has a lot more range. But the R7/R8 are better in my opinion.

I have both. They both detect so far away that I don't feel like the R8 is a significant upgrade from the R7 unless you intend to pair it with an app like highway radar. Even then, the only difference is you get alerts to the app instead of the detector.

Shouldn't the R8 be similar to the R4 in range? I always thought the big difference between those two were the arrows.

I still have to wait for the pricing to go down to upgrade my R3.

From Google:

The lowest standard retail price for a new Uniden R7 in the USA is $479.99 at official retailers like Uniden and Klarna. However, during major sales events, it frequently drops to an all-time low of $379.99.
Current pricing and availability vary by vendor:Standard New Price: $479.99 (available via Uniden or Best Buy).Sale/All-Time Low: $379.99 (historical sale pricing verified on forums like Reddit).Pre-owned / Refurbished: Prices can drop well below $350 depending on the specific condition on platforms like eBay.

Not sure. Maybe the R8 deciding the direction takes some time that the R4 doesn't need. But, I notice the R4 did alert to KA band wire a bit sooner than my R8 does.

Was it helpful in the US? I only setup the band frequency filtering but changed nothing on the firmware

Currently have a R4 and don't feel this is enough to upgrade, although arrow direction is nice.

I bought my R7 for that price from Woot about two years ago. Wish I knew then that it was a good deal so I would have bought two!

It makes the GPS POI alerts less annoying, instead of recurring chime, it only beeps once when near, and again once passed.
It personalizes with your name on boot, and a very gimmicky anti-theft feature.
For $50 it's not too bad, but I think the only value I get from it is the less annoying POI chimes
