Had the mini 2 and it was the absolute worst dash I ever used. App was slow, images were blurry, would randomly disconnect, the list goes on. Maybe this mini 3 is better but I would not go Garmin dash again. Just better options at lower or similar price points (e.g Viofo, Wolfbox, Vantrue) out there.

I bought the 2 because it was small and discreet. I don't want a big ass dashcam so some crackhead would break my window for it.
The app is a bit slow but it works fine.

I have this dashcam in two different vehicles and it works just fine. 1080p as you have noticed but if you're looking for something small and discreet this is it. Easy to install, plug and play.

The videos are stored in the microsd card. When the card is full, it will overwrite the oldest file except videos involving incidents or you manually saved. You can view or download the videos on your phone (connect via WiFi) or your computer (data cable).

Online subscription is $10 a month. It saves 7 days recording in the cloud. It's useless. But to answer your question, you don't need a subscription.

I've had the mini 2 for four years, works great no problems at all. I wanted the mini because it's so small it's hidden by my headliner when I'm driving. There are better ones but at the time this was the smallest which is what I cared about most.

I had the mini 3 for a few months. It works pretty well for the price. Turns on fairly quick when you start the car, can easily click a button to have the microphone on or off. Microsd card is easy to install and take out. Recordings look fairly good.
