Google Fi's 50 percent off promo lowers the cost of Unlimited plans for a year, with strong appeal for frequent travelers and multi line households. Fi stands out for easy international use, solid performance on the QCI 6 network, and unlimited premium features like Disney Plus and hotspot on the higher tier. Taxes and fees are extra and can add a noticeable amount per line, and the hotspot cap drops to 256 kbps after 50 GB. Support and promo terms can be picky, so the fine print matters.
Common Questions (5)
Taxes and fees are extra and vary by state, so the advertised price is not the full monthly cost. Some users report roughly $8-$10 per line in taxes, and Maryland can add about $10 per line.
Fi works well for many short international trips and can reconnect within a few minutes after arriving in a new country. It can also be limited on longer stays, with reports of data being cut off after about 5-6 weeks in Europe or reduced to call/text only after roughly a month abroad.
The promo is for new customers only, so an existing Fi account generally does not qualify. A workaround discussed is porting out and creating a new Fi account with a different Gmail address; using the same Gmail can be treated as existing for 6 months.
The discount credits after you activate the phone on the Fi network, not at checkout. If the promo shows as "in progress," the line may still be waiting for activation to trigger the bill credits.
Unlimited Premium includes a 50 GB hotspot cap. After that, hotspot speeds drop to 256 kbps, so it is not a good fit if you need sustained tethering for work or travel.

1. If I get the Unlimited Premium Plan as new customer, does it put me in the 12 months contract with Good Fi and there is penalty if gets out or I can get out anytime?
Since I'm waiting to see if Apple has any innovation with any new iPhone 18 redesign such as fold iPhone or anything really different so I can jump on it and with any new carrier with promotions in September.
I'm currently with AT&T and the signal is not good in my area for years (not many cell towers allow in neighborhoods around here).
Also AT&T is so tricking and has changed their plans 1-2 twice/year and put you in their new plan automatically which cost about $5 plus tax for every line (that about $25 or so for 4 lines after tax every single time).
2. Google Fi still consider you as new customer after you try and test out a week or so (just to see how fast data plan and cell signal before commitment into it for a year) ?
Also a youngest (4th line) is still in middle school with a very old iPhone 6 Plus that does not come with eSIM.
Will it still work with Google Fi with existing physical regular SIM card/size that came with the old iPhone 6 Plus?
The other 3 lines are old iPhone 13 Pro Max that compatible with Google Fi and eSIM I think. Plan to upgrade to new iPhone 18 (if there will be new design come out) and passing down one of the iPhone 13 Pro Max to the 4th line for Google Fi.
Please recommend and advise for our situation before jumping on this deal and get out of AT&T that we've been with for almost a decade but time to get out since they have been rip us off with new plans so often and no loyalty nowadays with any cell phone/ insurance, etc. companies out there. The only reason that we still with AT&T is that they have been having tons of wireless and fiber (work with Chase credit cards) with Chase, Citi, and American Express where you pay about $65 and get $50 back very often almost every quarter on several of my credit cards and we've been getting back several hundreds to maybe over $1K/year from these AT&T wireless and/or Fiber (with Chase only) offers.
TIA.
