It's not terrible, but it's not quite up to the name.
When I got the unit and assembled it, I noticed that there were some mismatches between the printed instructions and the parts in the box. They had cost-engineered down some of the components so aggressively their instructions couldn't keep up.
I didn't know when I purchased that they had been bought out by private equity. If I had, I'd look elsewhere. Part of the point of owning a Weber is the fantastic warranty and after purchase parts support. That's exactly the kind of "unnecessary extra" private equity guts in order to loot "value" when they flip the remaining company carcass to some other sucker.
Compared with other new grills from competitors in this price point, I think they're fine and Weber still makes quality grills. After you account for inflation this modern Genesis C-335E is a bit cheaper than a comparable 3 burner Genesis grill was from 20 years ago. So that could explain some of why the newer models seem less overbuilt or robust than older Webers. I still think they're acceptable though if you are dead set on buying new.
The 3 burner Genesis models have all been around $600-$900 consistently for the last 20 years. A $750 Genesis from 2006 would be around $1250 in today's dollars to give you an example.
I think the issue is that there are an absurd amount of second hand Weber grills to be had for dirt cheap, and the Webers built before 2011 are quite durable. So you can buy an older top of the line model, like a 4 burner Summit, for the price of this new grill, or get a comparable 3 burner model for $100-$200.
My Weber Genesis E-320, which is the older horizontal burner style like this but with a side burner, [geardiary.com] was $150 on FB marketplace. The seller even delivered it for free since I lived on their way to work.

Even pre-2011 Webers will develop rust problems in the base, and those problems usually stem from leaving the grills exposed to the elements. Even if you keep yours covered, the covers themselves wear out, so they need to be replaced periodically to continue protecting the grill.
This isn't a unique to new Weber problem, it's a problem in general for all grills, no matter the era or brand.
You can still get stainless steel grates by the way. That's always been an option which you had to pay for even in the past, so nothing is different today.
Stainless grates are a side-grade in my opinion, not an upgrade, so I wouldn't knock this grill for having cast iron. It's only benefit is slightly easier clean up, and longer grate life, at the cost of requiring more heat and/or time to get comparable sear marks as cast iron.
You still have to clean and oil stainless, so it's basically the same procedure.
Even then grate life argument is ridiculous to me. My cast iron grates are 10 years old and are fine. Cast iron only rusts or wears away when you don't keep it seasoned or your grill is left uncovered.
I had "upgraded" to stainless grates on my 20 year old Weber E-320 for a while. I noticed it took a lot more heat soaking and overall higher grill temperatures to get the same performance as the prior cast iron. I also noticed meat would occasionally stick, even with adequate oil and heating, which never happened with seasoned and oiled cast iron.

Spirit models have always been kind of janky, even ones from the "golden" pre-2010 era. They have never been good examples of Weber quality. That being said, you can still buy replacement parts for them.
The second hand market is evidence of this. You see far more surviving Genesis models than Spirit models, and the few Spirit models you do see are often in really rough shape.
BDT is the firm that owns Weber. They're one of the private equity examples that focuses on long term growth of their assets. They don't seem to loot and flip their assets, and they don't do leveraged buyouts.
They invested quite a bit of money into the company in addition to purchasing all outstanding shares.
