Lenovo's ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 is a mobile workstation built for heavy creator and engineering work, with a 24GB RTX PRO 5000, 192GB of RAM, 4TB of storage, and workstation software certification. The huge memory pool, four SODIMM slots, and Thunderbolt support make it stand out for video editing, VFX, local AI, and other on the go pro workflows. The main tradeoffs are the very high price after tax, the pen sold separately, and some spec choices that feel dated for the money, including DDR5 5600, a 120Hz 3.2K screen, and only one PCIe 5.0 NVMe slot. It reads like a niche powerhouse for specialized mobile work.

  • The RTX PRO 5000 configuration can support demanding creator workflows that need mobile top-end GPU power.

    Luigis3rdcousinChangL2893

  • The laptop offers substantial system memory expandability with four SODIMM slots for high-RAM workloads.

    Alfalfa1cheeknowe

  • The extended warranty can be important for after-sale coverage on a high-end workstation-class laptop.

    Byron33BluntBlaster420

  • The machine can enable local AI use cases where keeping questions private matters.

    xiaowangBluntBlaster420

  • The total cost can rise above expectations after tax and the pen may need separate purchase.

    manormortalcscamp20

  • The configuration may feel constrained for AI expectations because 24GB VRAM may only fit smaller models.

    KeithY9797ElatedString650

  • The system may be limited by memory and storage configuration choices such as DDR5-5600 speed and only one PCIe 5.0 NVMe slot.

    ArthurSpoonerjbwhite99

  • The dedicated GPU may not be fully usable at the stated high resolution, which can lead to very low performance.

I have never seen a laptop this is expensive before. What makes it so pricey? Some of the specs look crazy.

The GPU alone is $3500-4000, and then the 4x 48GB DDR5-5600 RAM sticks are around $2500-$3000.

There's always been computers this expensive or more for a long time. It's for the crazy power users who need to be mobile and need the latest most top end thing possible. The fact it shows a CGI visual effects image on the screen, someone who works for a visual effects studio like ILM or weta studios for example, making some cool effects on site at a movie production, or making a cool 360 degree video wall set on unreal engine being produced live on screen. The big players have no problem spending 3x this on those kinda systems

Ya but those people aren't shopping around for these on their personal dime, their companies already provide these caliber machines to them

Like this would suffice for the guy who made FLOW to do it all here (maybe with some external hard drives of course)

That is a lot of expandability for a laptop - and a heck of a lot of RAM.
