Probably because of the lack of a DAC chip in the USB-C version. If the phone doesn't support USB-C audio out (non-Ultra Samsung models, for example) then it won't work. Since most people get USB-C earphones for mobile devices, this would render them completely useless since there are barely any options for male USB-C to female USB-C DACs, and those that exist will no doubt far outprice the earphones themselves.
3.5mm earphones + an Apple USB-C DAC dongle for <$10 (well-rated and one of the few reasonably-priced Apple products) is going to be the best combo for most.

Would the 17 Pro Max still have this issue? I've never heard of the usb-c issue with headphones. I'd like to learn more about it.

I always use wired for work meetings because i enjoy the reliability knowing it's ready to go.

I've never left wired headphones. Better sound quality, more lightweight, no pairing needed, no deteriorating or exploding lithium batteries to worry about. TWS earphones are the worst, with one side draining faster than the other.

I use it for work calls from my laptop and it works fine. Not recommended for music due to lack of bass and tinny sound. The USB-C version is basically the same product except with a different connector.

I use these (aux ones) almost every day listening to podcasts while walking my dog. I wouldn't use for music though.

Yup, I switched back to wired after scrambling to get BT headset connected or switch to/from phone/laptop for meetings.

I don't have this one but a similar generic one from Amazon. Plug and play and it's small to fit in laptop bag.

Exactly! you nailed it. Plug & Play was the right words of choice. Login, connect, meet, and leave. You don't want to be that person has to scramble during a meeting and figure out what's going on because your wireless device has issues! And then apologize and then blame "IT" for your self-createrd issues ! : )

Virtually every USB C earbud has a DAC. What evidence do you have that these don't? The frequently returned means nothing because that is common with many headphones on Amazon, even those that cost hundreds of dollars. Since there are so few places to try headphones, people use Amazon's liberal return policy to simply try different models.
