How Not to Age is framed as a major, science driven longevity book that pushes a plant based, food as medicine approach and is seen as worth far more than the $2.99 price. The author is also credited with donating speaking and book proceeds to charity, and the audiobook narration gets praise for its voice. The main pushback is that some of the science is viewed as selective or ideological, with a few recommendations and supplement claims drawing skepticism. A solid low cost pick if the topic and approach fit your interests.

Common Questions (4)

  • Yes. Funds from his speaking engagements and book sales are donated directly to charity, which makes the purchase effectively a charity-supported sale.

  • Yes. The book is framed around a fully plant-based, food-as-medicine approach, and that can make protein intake harder if you are not used to relying on beans and other plant proteins.

  • Yes. The book is described as one of the most important books to read and worth far more than $2.99, making the deal price unusually strong for a Michael Greger title.

  • Yes, the Kindle edition is included in Kindle Unlimited if you already have that subscription, so you may be able to read it without buying the ebook separately.

This guy has a great voice, so if you're going to endure this, at least get the audiobook (for those of you of a certain age, he sounds like the Firesign Theater guy, but those recordings were more factual).
Because I'm a masochist, I've read (listened to) this and his Die book. He loves to rant about 'other authors' not following the science and then proceeds to not follow the science more than any other author I've read. He will completely disregard rigorous research, yet cling to outdated studies that have since been shown to have shoddy methodology and results that have since been disproven. There are some nuggets here and there that are valid, but mostly you'll be wading through ideological crap.

NAD gave my brother prostate cancer. You should research stuff thoroughly before you start taking things. People always do the dumbest things looking for miracle cures...
Yeah I've heard the stuff it has that energizes good growth also energizes bad growth … hope he's doin ok!
I cycle it with big breaks and try fasting and stuff for autophagy too but nothing is without risks
How was he taking it? Do you have details on dosage / pills vs injection

Dr. Gregor is the real deal. He's all about going fully plant-based and using food as medicine. Pretty sure he donates all the profits too.

Of course the only major downside of plant-based is it's harder to get protein...there's only so many beans one can eat.

Why are people so afraid of aging and dying? It's literally the only thing humans do without fail? Live your life, don't take resources from others' lives.

Great deal on a book that promotes a vegan diet. I am not disagreeing with the research. I am just not going to stop eating lean meat and dairy. A couple of other books that were more useful for me were Outlive (yes, the author knew Epstein), Good Energy was interesting, but less helpful, and Lies I taught in Medical School was decent, spoiler alert, he basically thinks sugar is evil. Great price though.
No meat and no dairy:

I'll save you $3Work out. Eat healthy. Don't smoke. Don't drink alcohol. Sleep 8 hours. Wear sun screen. Drink water.
I can agree to the first few but the sleeping 8 hours, sunscreen, and drinking water killed your answer. Sleep when tired instead of focusing on a number. Some nights may be 6 hours and other nights 10. Covering the body in chemical sunscreen is what causes skin cancer when it's baked into the skin by the sun and it blocks out necessary benefits from the sun. The body is not made of pure water which is why IV fluid is made of normal saline to prevent massive fluid shifts that shut down organs. I'll also throw in that sunglasses do more harm than good by blocking the sunlight from entering the retina which is responsible for many body processes. Disrupting that process causes several problems but one of them is insomnia. I haven't read the book but it sounds like you would benefit from spending the $3.

Nad+ works that good? I need to try
NAD has become one of the latest fads of misguided health information. It's promoted all over social media as an oral supplement which is useless. The body cannot process oral NAD. I've had patients who received IV NAD as part of their detox and repair from substance abuse. It's hard to say whether it deserves the credit it's given. The first couple days are rough but the discomfort is temporary. Was that the NAD making them feel better or just the natural response several days after beginning detoxing from a chemical substance as it's leaving the body. The abstinence was short lived for most. Of course they were able to refrain during those daily 8 hour treatment days when they're hooked up to an IV in a clinic and paying upwards of $1200/day but when that's over with and their mental health hasn't been addressed, they gravitated back to their old lifestyle.

I have noticed legit effects in pill form from one brand ,not so much from another, I am trying another similar to the first but I think the preparation matters and they are all a little different
I swear it has helped burn scars fade a bit, I notice it on skin health and hair growth mostly …
but when I first started taking it I noticed giant energy boost that I don't see as much now, so I think I was previously depleted. It is easy to cycle off for a while when the pills cost this much and I am a cheapskate lol. But def dabble more than dive in, if a little helps you it does not mean a lot would
