I don't really like turn based games, but I liked Expedition 33. Is this going to be a game for me?
I have been a Fire Emblem fan for a long time. If you like tactics with high fantasy pseudo medieval settings you might enjoy some aspects. Usually the story is decent and there's at least a few likeable characters. It's almost never as deep as Expidition 33 but can be fun. Personally I'd watch a lets play of Fire Emblem Three Houses from the switch which appears very similar, though not the exact same, and try to judge from that.

This is turn based but is closer to something like chess than the pen/paper rpgs that games like Dragon Quest come from. The main gameplay involves moving pieces around a map and they battle based on equipment and stats (probable outcomes are usually given before you engage but theres always the chance of a miss or critical hit).
All that said Fire Emblem has always been overpriced. If you dont mind more DS esque retro graphics there are tools on Steam that make building your own SRPG relatively easy and there are tons of fan/indie games available. Fire Emblem tends to be fairly polished with high quality character/map designs but pricing this the same as something like DK Bonanza, BotW, or even MKW is a joke to anyone even remotely familiar with game design.
If you want a cheap AAA alternative, Gears Tactics was decent and everyone loves XCOM.
