Seems like a must buy.

Does anyone know if the digital file provided has the same quality as the bluray? Like can I just throw the digital copy on a hard drive and stream/plex/emby and have same experience?

Digital copy is always accessible through a streaming service like Amazon/Vudu/Apple tv. But it's movies anywhere so you can stream through any and all after you enter the code.

For someone that knows what a plex is, it is surprising you don't know they do not give you a digital file. They give you a code to redeem with a digital retailer and the playback has to be done on one of these platforms.

The quality through those services is never as good as the physical UHD disc. Ever.

What I want to know is if this new dolby vision UHD is actually a better transfer than the previous HD10 UHD version which honestly was a disappointment. Dolby Vision itself I don't care about but the quality of the actual transfer as I already have the UHD which isn't as good as it should have been.

Keep in mind, you will NOT get the visual upgrade if you use your PS5 as your main 4k player (no DV support on PS5, just UHD) ...so you'll only really experience the Atmos audio upgrade in that situation (along with getting the extras on the actual 4k disc, rather than a separate Blu-ray)

If video quality is your main reason for double-dipping, you'll either need a standalone player or to be ok with a slightly degraded Digital streaming version (which might end up around the same quality as your current HDR release)

I didn't pick up a 4k version yet and will be happy with Atmos (plus extras on the actual 4k disc, plus a MA compatible digital version) so $15 is a steal for me...but wanted to toss some context out there, just in case.

Hope this helps!

I know they added dolby vision. But is the film transfer new or the same? What about the video encode? Newer/higher bitrate?

According to the people over on the Blu-ray website forums, it has new color grading but seems to be based on the same old, slightly problematic transfer, so not super different in terms of quality outside of the color scheme.

Makes sense. I have a PS5 and it's a huge disappointment that it doesn't have DV support. Know of any good relatively inexpensive players that I could use an alternative for my 4k blu rays? Everything I'm seeing is pretty pricey

Seems the color grading is better and the film has better contrasts between night and day sequences. Along with the dolby atmos, this is a must-have for me.

I'm tired of buying these classic movies over and over again. DVD, Bluray, 4K, now 4K with Dolby Vision and Atmos.
c'mon now.

The go to option for some time now has been the Panasonic UB820.

If that's what you want to do, ripping the UHD disc is the best option. I know this was not one of the discs I had to use my pioneer drive to rip, ripped fine with my LG drive.

Panasonic ub450 has DV support, usually for significantly less than ub 820. They're difficult to find in stock though.
I own a ub820, and got a great deal on a BF deal years ago. But if the ub450 had been available, I probably would've went with it.
