Maui Jim sunglasses are praised for standout optical quality, with glass lenses that stay sharp and polarized, and the sport frames add grip for active wear. The deal source also gets repeated authenticity checks, with pairs matching older Maui Jim models and packaging in several cases. The main cautions are that this seller is not listed as an authorized retailer, so warranty coverage may differ, and the glasses are not especially tough for hard use or impact. One shipment also arrived with packaging that looked opened and resealed, so condition on arrival may matter.

Just received my Serengetis a few days ago from that same deal.

They are absolutely wonderful in every way and the best part is that they aren't a Luxottica product.
if you are referring to the Masten, those are great. love the curvature of the lenses.

Amen to that! My Serengtis showed up too and they are everything I used to love about MJs. I have a new pair of MJs and the lenses seem to be just as good as they used to be but the frames feel like cheap junk. Serengetis are quality frames and lenses.

I saw a video on YouTube that was talking about that very thing with MJs. The lenses are still the same high quality (for now), but Luxottica is starting to cut corners in other areas. The lens quality is most likely living on borrowed time.

Isn't the whole reason for an "Authorized retailer" list to prevent counterfeits?
Where would a grey market retailer be getting bulk quantities of authentic goods?
Being legit is just a part of the reason for authorized dealers. Opinions may differ but I think the bigger reason is likely warranties. At least with watches. The manufacturers warranty isn't going to be there with a grey market dealer (for the most part). The grey market dealer might warranty it but it's not the same as the manufacturer. With some AD's they sometimes have more stock than they want and will sell it on the side to a grey market dealer. Stock he can't sell or doesn't want. It's probably important to find a grey market dealer with a good reputation. Many of them sell many different items.

What are peoples opinions on this brand? Are they good at taking falls/damage without scrapes problems?

Im a bit of a glasses noob (but also kind of snob cuz i wear them religiously...think uneducated but snob requirements) and I had gotten some ray bans, but they took some damage on their first fall. I have this random chinese brand I got for $60 that has basically been immortal, but you can't buy them anymore.

Any guidance or opinions on these would be appreciated, but im looking to only pay $100+ for stuff that can withstand damage and still look okay/not show up from basic falls/drops.

They're some of the highest quality sunglasses you can get currently. MJ is known for their optical quality. They are not really hard use glasses though. They have a few models for "sport" but it's mainly grippier frames and plastic lenses (not as good as their glass but still noticeably better than Oakley and the like for me). The glass lens models are fairly front heavy if you're moving around a lot so the possibility of them falling off is higher. None of mine are "tough". I've scratched them by slipping and brushing my head against a wall when they were on top of my head. It's still the only brand I've worn for the last 5-10 years though.

Guy I've gotten 4 pairs from this dealer and they are exactly identical to the same Maui Sugar Beach sunglasses that I have bought for 15 years now. Everyone that has bought them on this thread have told you the same.

Oh, you're right! I'm sorry. I got my facts confused. Maui Jim is owned by the *other* evil optical empire, Kering Eyewear. Bought MJ in 2022. Same cutting corners. Same hollowing out the brand. Just a different company name on the checks.

Sorry for the confusion, everyone.

Kering Eyewear and Luxottica own 95% of all eyewear brands between them and they are equally horrible.

I just got the mastens too. These are my 1st Serengetis and I absolutely love the look and lens. I do have MJs from costco and the lens are amazing. Great glasses - definitely not for rough use.
