How is the quality of harborfreight products now? They were on a downhill many years ago. I last set foot in their store more than a decade ago... hope they have improved.

12 point sockets are not impact sockets, they are just toys designed to frustrate and make your day miserable.

Note that metric skips two often used sizes, 12mm and 16mm, so you'll probably have to supplement this set.
Includes: 10 mm, 13 mm, 14 mm, 15 mm, 17 mm, 18 mm, 19 mm, 21 mm, 22 mm, 24 mm, 27 mm, 30 mm, 32 mm

I got the 6-point metric set for $20 on sale years ago. Now their regular price. Unless you're a journeyman ASC, they'll be fine for hobby and homeowner use.

But agree no 12-point.

There is no need to use a 1/2" impact socket on any fastener smaller than than 13 mm. That's the job for a 3/8" ratchet.

I have 6 and 12 point. 6 is stronger, but 12 has better access. I've loaded 12 point/32 mm socket with breaker bar up to 800 ft-lbs without stripping.

People use impact wrenches for two things. The first is to get off tight fasteners. The second is to get fasteners off quickly.
There are plenty of 10mm and 12mm nuts and bolts for which the use of an impact wrench is beneficial.

How much torque on a 10 or 12 mm? Perhaps 20 ft-lbs? Use a 3/8" impact if you must remove 12 mm fasteners all day for a living. Why mess around with a heavy 1/2" impact? Additionally, these small fasteners are not easily accessible with a 1/2" impact. I prefer a 1/4" 72 tooth roto head ratchet or 12 point box end wrench. You shouldn't be wrenching if you can't remove a 12 mm fastener with a 3/8" ratchet.

But then when would I use my bolt extractors??? Wink

Has anyone ever seen the guys on "Roadkill" use an impact socket?

Pro uses the cheapest and lightest tool to do the job. A 1/2" breaker will probably snap a heavily corroded 10 mm bolt. Bring in the torch. Cherry red heat is 99.99% effective for rust and corrosion.
