The Timex Expedition Scout is a cheap, sturdy everyday watch that keeps good time and suits a bigger field watch look. The canvas strap stays cooler than rubber or resin in hot weather, and the low price makes wear and tear easier to live with. The main drawbacks are the very loud ticking and recurring Indiglo failures, with some reports of the light fading or stopping within weeks or months. It is a practical, low-cost beater if the noise and light reliability are not dealbreakers.

Common Questions (4)

  • Yes. The second hand is reported to tick very loudly, enough to be noticeable in a bedroom and annoying if the watch is left nearby at night. Some owners keep the crown pulled out or store it away to silence it.

  • It can. Some units reportedly lose most of their brightness or stop working within weeks to under a year, though others still work after a year with little light use.

  • Yes, it is described as a sturdy, inexpensive daily watch that can handle years of use. One owner reported more than 10 years of ownership and another said it kept perfect time after sitting unused for almost a decade.

  • Yes. The stock strap can be replaced with a silicone band, and the original fabric-style strap is noted for staying cooler than rubber or resin in hot weather. The tradeoff is that it can spin around when wet.

These are great cheap watches, but the second hand ticks loudly. If you want something nicer, get the Timex Expedition North Post Solar. They're around $180 but significantly better quality.
I have one. I put it across the rooom in my bedroom no a table. I had to move it while sleeping. It keeps good time however. Very loud.

I really liked mine but the Indiglo failed in less than 2 weeks.
Glad to know it's not just me, but also, sorry. That sucks.

Solid watch. Very loud ticking. I keep the crown pulled out when not wearing it
I do that on my Bulova to save the battery.

Been rocking this exact one for a year, no indiglow issues. I changed out the band for a silicone one though.

I got rid of a Timex because it ticked so loudly. I could only hear it when held up to my ear, but unless I stashed it away under a pile of clothes at night it would drive my wife crazy.
mine stays in another room, try that. also use an air cleaner at night, and never hear it ........keep it all in another room for starts. easy peasy.

I used to wear these when working in hot summers because the straps dont get hot and slimy like the rubber/resin straps (shifty - they can spin around on you when wet)
