Steel does not exhibit stress fatigue. If properly maintained it can last indefinitely so long as stresses applied remain under it's yield point. Aluminum slowly develops micro fractures over time even when stressed beneath it's yield point, a phenomena known as stress fatigue.
Realistically, aluminum ladders are lightweight and great and most won't use them enough for this effect to matter. That said, they aren't better in all respects, long term reliability under constant hard use (and potentially absolute strength) being one (possibly two) of those.
Very GOOD info... thank you.

I had a aluminum ladder that broke on me... started with "stress micro fractures" and turned into complete failure.

But I still prefer aluminum and what I do is I buy "over sized" so my ladders are all registered for 375lbs. While I am much lighter then 300lbs my ladder that failed me was rated for 300lbs.

Very welcome. I only have information to share because others were generous enough to do so with me. We must try to always educate and support each other : )
That sounds like a classic stress fatigue failure. The closer to the yield point aluminum is taken repeatedly, the faster it fatigues...and it can be a dramatic effect. People also forget about acceleration effects on stress. When someone steps down quickly, their mass must be decelerated by the ladder rung more rapidly, thus greater acceleration, thus greater force, greater stress, greater strain inching toward the yield point.
All that friggin said...I too, still buy aluminum ladders most of the time LMAO

Isn't this a no-name brand? I wouldn't trust it for something like a ladder.
Yeah the design looks incredibly flimsy. The steps will be the first to fail. No way this actually holds up 300lb

These come in handy a lot more often than you'd think. Thanks for posting.

Even as a steel construction, there's a lot of compromised design here for a ladder - it will wobble. The brace and the hanging rod just won't hold those steps solidly.

I'm confused: Title says 3 steps but the photo and description says 4 steps.

The description also seems suspect. It says the "lightweight design makes them portable and easy to carry with one hand." Yet it also says "Constructed from premium, high-grade steel." A big steel ladder probably won't be "easy" to carry with one hand. And I'm not sure I'd trust such a thin construction to hold 330lbs each step.

this looks super cheaply made and there's so many points of failure

normal step ladders don't have to have so many boot strap solutions to a simple step ladder to bring down the cost.

also there's obvious bots posting in this thread.. so that's all the tell tale signs of another high quality, pay for promotion deal on shill deals

Don't know if my sarcasm meter is on or not but this is a 4 step ladder.
They have a 3 step for $5 cheaper and a 2 step ladder too. The $38 is for the 4 step ladder.

These are step stools and you can step on top step unlike regular ladders.
