Head Country Apple Habanero comes across as a very sweet, mild sauce that works better as a dip than a true barbecue sauce. The flavor leans toward sweet chili with only a hint of barbecue, and it is handy for fries, chicken, egg rolls, and spring rolls. The sauce is also described as thin and runny, with little to no spice despite the habanero label. Some praise the lack of high fructose corn syrup, but the sugar-heavy ingredient list and weaker barbecue flavor are recurring drawbacks.

  • The sauce works well as a dipping sauce for foods like egg rolls and spring rolls.

  • The sauce can taste good even though it is very sweet and mild.

  • The sauce is reportedly free of HFCS, which may matter for ingredient preferences.

  • The sauce can be useful for dipping chicken and fries when a thinner consistency is acceptable.

  • The sauce reportedly has zero spice kick despite habanero, making it too mild for heat seekers.

  • The sauce is very thin and runny, so it may not work well for basting meats.

  • The sauce is very sweet and has almost no real BBQ flavor, which can feel like a weak knockoff.

  • The ingredient list raises concerns because sugar appears as the first ingredient and includes added sugar from apple juice.

What brand do you recommend
Not the person you asked, but Kinder makes some good sauces. Also no corn syrup. I quit buying sweet baby rays after one taste. Original/mild if you like a little sweeter. Gold if you prefer something tangier. The bottles are smaller than what rays sells for the same price....BUT Publix occasionally has them on BOGO....so I stock up when they do and it ends up cheaper than Rays. Win-win.

I bought this exact product and flavor when I saw it on SD a week or so ago, and it's very sweet with almost no BBQ vibe. It reminded me of a weak and cheap knock off version of Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce. I have been using it for dipping sauce for fries until its gone. I am pretty sure this brand will get pulled from Walmart shelves eventually. I am in Kansas City, I know BBQ sauce I like to think!
I buy this brand frequently for dipping. It's good, but it's watery and weak. Perfect for chicken and fries but too thin for basting. Use Sweet Baby Ray for meats
