Since new premium plan introduction Go5G+ trade in value had been capped at $800/830 only. For a limited time (ends Aug 5, 2026), trade in value is bumped up to $1100 so base iPhone 17 Pro is now free.

This high value trade in typically requires an older Pro or Pro Max. That's only for 13 and 14 series. For 15 and 16, base models also qualify, including 16e, which is very unusual.

FAQ:
  1. This is not available at Apple Store with T-Mo carrier promo. Apple continues to show $800 only. Hope that changes. There is still $35 DCC at Apple which is a recent change.
  2. Taxes on full retail price. So, added $100 as list price.
  3. This is 24-month credits. Early pay off results in losing credits.
  4. Phone is locked to T-Mobile for 24 months. It wouldn't be if #1 above was working for $1100 promo.
  5. Go to Costco for $100 upgrade rebate per line and avoid $35 DCC. Sams works too but not sure about rebate amount.

Does anyone know if Apple usually changes their promos to match the higher T-Mobile one here? or if we're just out of luck if we're looking for an unlocked device?

Does old grandfathered line work with this upgrade or you have to be on new GO5G plan?

What's the cheapest monthly plan? If I have to pay an extra $40-50/month, then it defeats the purpose

The truly cheapest is Essentials Saver plan, it's $50 a month for 1 line. You don't get all the extra perks such as satellite, hotspot and international features. No phone promos or free line promos. I think prepaid service comes out slightly cheaper but I have some grandfathered data only lines for $10 for 30gb that I actually use so don't want to switch out to prepaid. You can choose Essentials plan online yourself but it's $60, the Essentials Saver you have to get customer service to do it for you. Between the two Essentials plans, I think Essentials still gets partial promo on phone credits while Essentials Saver for sure is nothing. I found it's cheaper to buy my phones directly rather pay premium phone lines that cost more than the monthly credit you get.

It's never an Apple Promo, but a T-Mobile promo through Apple, and T-Mobile decides if they want to incentivize or restrict certain channels. Apple will always just apply the trade in value they list for the device as is, the rest is T-Mobile credit.

Turning a 16e into a 17pro is quite an unusual stunt and amazing for Go5G+ but a locked phone not so ideal. Also, keep in mind if you burn too much EIP credit now you might regret that in September when the 18 pros shows up.

For those of you with free T-Mobile lines (Line on us promos), not all lines are eligible for upgrades any longer.

the Go 5G+ plan mentioned is $60 per line (which is at least twice if not 3X what i want to be paying), so at that extra $30-40/mo, thats like $800-$1100 for a 17 pro... and youre giving up a phone thats worth at least $300 to get it

Exactly… even paying full price for a phone and not trading in you're better off with a prepaid plan like US Mobile or Mint at $10-20/mo.

I'm currently off contract with TMobile on the 5G Go Plus Plan with employees discount. Can I just upgrade my phones and stay in with my plan?

There is no contract. I take it that you are not having active EIPs. Though technically grandfathered with Experience More as its replacement, Go5G+ is still a valid plan for this promotion.

So, yes - upgrade your phones and keep the plan. Even if any new plan comes and Go5G+ gets downgraded, you are set for the next two years as your discounted price is locked (just like the phone).
