I have some cameras and the msot annoying part is how fast the live view times out. Also watching and recording isnt an option for free. Outside of that they're done for what they do

If you want full functionality, yes a subscription is required. If you do not want subscription b.s. go with eufy or another company

You do not need a subscription. For local storage, use Sync Module XR with a MicroSD card (sold separately), and access footage via your smartphone or computer.

I have nothing but issues with the sync module. It goes offline intermittently and it is very unreliable. I personally think they make it harder for the customers to use sync module so that they are forced to buy their subscription. Customer service is not much of a help either.

I got sd card in mine works perfectly dont understand what ppl are talking about. I canceled my plan years ago. These are great I have one on a tree far away to catch deer or intruders. I have 5 set up around the house. The only downfall is buying rechargeable batteries that do higher voltage etc. I must be a rocket scientist to figure this stuff out on my own

Not at all. You need would however need one of the two sync modules XR or sync module 2 that accept a usb drive. I have a couple and they work fine without cloud storage, just a little more work to setup and the need for more hardware

yeah, but they make it a royal pain to use without a subscription, by design.
they make it so tapping on the notification for a movement event takes you to the live view within the app... then when you go to clips in the app, it says "system is busy, please wait", over and over again, because the module is trying to process a live view, so naturally it is busy.... for 4 seconds, for 20 seconds... who knows. just have to keep clicking that clip till it eventually decides its done, and then it finally lets you view the clip.
also... no filtering local clips by camera. no previews.. clips take a very very long time to load. the list goes on.

suffice to say, if you dont want to pay for a subscription, and you are just getting into a system, for your own sanity, buy something else. only buy this if you are willing to pay a subscription, or you are already stuck in their ecosystem.

also, and im not sure if this is a subscription option or not... you cant change the notification tones on a per camera basis. so the back deck that gets 100s of triggers a day from my cat roaming around, or my dog being let out, or me going out to grill... i want it to be recorded but i dont need to be alerted. ... vs my driveway or shed camera that i want to be notified for... nope.. all the same tone. so naturally they all get ignored. its a stupid design.
