I hear these are great guitars, but make sure you want to keep it. They don't hold their resale value that well. For $1,500 you may be better off with a brand that is easier to resell unless you know you love Pacificas and will keep this for life.

A quick Reverb search for "Pacifica Professional" shows every used listing at or above this price.

Reverb listing prices are often… aspirational, you might say. The actual sales prices mean quite a bit more. Reverb itself thinks that a used one can sell in the $958-$1,519 range. Then subtract Reverb's fees and what you might pay for shipping. Reverb is the place you go to sell a guitar when you can't move it at places with lower transactional costs.
It's a good deal for a new guitar, if it's the specific guitar you want. Probably not the best impulse purchase or "I just want a guitar" purchase. $1,500 will get you a lot of guitar if you're a careful shopper and comfortable buying used.

This is solid advice. Yamahas are notoriously well built and solid instruments but the demand just isn't strong so resale gets tricky. A fender which is generally an inferior quality build at the same price will usually resell better because of the name. Just don't buy fender at msrp or you will take a bath.

Yeah I recently got a 2013 American Standard Strat (a great year) in immaculate shape for $899. The used market is full of great deals right now. Not to bash the Yamahas - they're outstanding guitars. Just harder to unload if you need to... especially when the used market is so flooded.
Does Carlos still play Yamaha? IIRC, back in the day he had a huge chuck of brass that was embedded into the guitar that the bridge was anchored into. That is what the sustain king needed. I imagine that can be done electronically now. I saw him in So Cal at least four times in the late 70's / 80's. Great shows.

Santana has played PRS guitars since the early 1980s.
If I was going to spend $1,500 on a guitar, I'd buy a used PRS Core model. I've picked two of them up at that price level this year. A 1997 CE 22 and and 2010 25th Anniversary Swamp Ash Special. Of the 16ish guitars I've got, they're both in the top five.
