I'm curious why this was marked down as not a good deal. The specs seem pretty spectacular for the price range and weight. What's the issue with it?

It's just some random guy with 1 downvote. Ignore if you like the deal.

Hard to please everyone especially the "I got this 50% cheaper a year ago crowd".

How's it compared to the open box MacBook pro m4 pro chip at microcenter for similar price.. Specs 12core CPU/16core GPU 24gb ram and 512gb ssd.

For what purpose were you thinking of? Personally I would never compare a MacBook anything to a Windows gaming laptop. Completely different categories. I mean, maybe there's some comparison for AI LLM processing. But beyond that, I wouldn't think of anything that the two would compete against. For general computing, you could get a Chromebook and have sufficient performance. For gaming, you really wouldn't bother with a MacBook anything. But for portability and the Apple ecosystem, the MBP is a great product. Personally, I think this is a pretty decent price price in this market. The MGP for the GPU is a little low at 85W. But it has 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB SSD. The display isn't OLED, but a 400 nits IPS won't suffer glare like an OLED either. Not bad.

I got this a few months ago refurb'd with the 5070. Unit was in great condition. Specs are good, thermals are pretty good. Touchpad is pretty good. Keyboard is disappointing but manageable I guess.
