Use a credit card that provides 1 year extended warranty for no charge. Battery unlikely to degrade in 2 years.
After 2 years out the money you saved on the warranty towards buying a new pair with the latest tech.
AirPods are not particularly fragile - if you drop the individual earbuds they will not break , and if you drop the case with the buds they are still unlikely to break , but if you are that prone to dropping buy a $5 case.
I have machine washed AirPods and they have worked without issue after drying out. In fact I washed a pair twice before it finally started working intermittently after a couple years use.
Also with this sale price , your cost for the warranty plus the deductible for a single replacement is basically half the product cost. That makes even less financial sense.
Community Reviews
AirPods Pro 3 stand out for strong active noise cancellation, a better ear seal than the Pro 2, and a price that undercuts recent Amazon and Costco offers. The earbuds are praised for blocking TV noise and snoring, and the sound is described as close to the Pro 2. The main hesitation is upgrade value, since Pro 2 owners with good fit and healthy batteries may not gain much. Stock has also been tight, with checkout failures and limited pickup or shipping availability.
Common Questions (5)
AppleCare can pay off if you want coverage for accidental damage and battery degradation, since replacements and battery service can otherwise cost real money. A counterpoint is that some buyers rely on credit-card extended warranty coverage instead and skip AppleCare because they expect to upgrade before battery wear becomes an issue.
Best Buy support has refunded the $10 difference after a price match, and some buyers also used DashPass gift-card discounts to lower the total further. Walmart reportedly will not price match its own earlier $179 purchase, so the workaround is to return and rebuy.
If your AirPods Pro 2 still fit well and the battery is healthy, the upgrade is probably not worth it. The Pro 3 seal better and ANC is stronger, but the sound is reported as very similar, so the main reasons to upgrade are fit issues or aging batteries.
The ANC is strong enough to block TV sound and snoring, and one user said it helps them ignore surrounding noise. They are not very comfortable for sleeping unless you sleep on your back.
Yes, the order can still go through after an out-of-stock final checkout error if you retry. Stock is very limited, and Amazon was also out of stock at the same time.

It's not that $20 is making my pits sweat, its that replacing the few products that fail in my lifetime doesn't concern me. Wasting money buying warranties on everything I buy would. Kinda like how large companies self insure.
Also please point to some kind of factual evidence that Apple has poor QC - Most would actually rank Apple as some of the most durable and reliable hardware available. Especially the MBP line you speak of.
Of course, as you say everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Being SD you should be able to see from the # of downvotes that your opinion is not shared.
