Jackery Explorer 5000 Plus is a large LiFePO4 power station aimed at whole home backup and 240V output, with smart panel integration and 7200W rated output. The unit is praised for being solid and for offering a lot of power in a relatively portable package. The main drawbacks are the price, which has been lower before, and the need for Jackery's smart panel to charge from 240V while outputting 240V. Solar setup also looks finicky, with a 135V start requirement, older 8mm connectors, and reports of charging problems on solar.

Common Questions (5)

  • It does not output 240V while charging from 120V unless you buy Jackery's smart panel. The 240V mode also relies on bridging the two internal inverters, which can force slower 8-20ms transfer time.

  • Several comments say this price is still above prior sale prices, with earlier deals around $2,299-$2,491 and even lower in some cases. At $2719 plus tax, it is described as not front-page worthy for a 5040Wh/7200W unit.

  • Solar charging has been reported to have technical issues on some units. The high-voltage solar input also needs about 135V startup, so it may require at least five 400W residential panels in series before charging begins.

  • Two Jackery 3600 units with the parallel adapter can provide 120/240V, about 7100Wh, and 7200W for roughly $2700. They are also more manageable to move, since the 5000 Plus is about 120 lb while each 3600 is about 77 lb.

  • It draws at least about 1300W while charging, so many smaller inverter generators will not support it. That makes it harder to spread out charging load unless you have a larger generator or another charging source.

The name of these things always bother me...They don't generate anything (on their own). They store power, deliver it, and then are a brick until you can charge them again. Doesn't make them bad, just a poor way to describe the product to me.

2029 or later. Elections are in 2028, but new administration will take affect in 2029

And even then, I expect they need congress approval and some new legislation, so make it more like 2030-2031, if anything happens at all.

They generate electricity stored in chemical bonds, same as combustion generators.

Or you can buy 2 x 3600 with Jackery parallel connect adapter included for 120/240v and 7100wh 7200w for $2700. This mama weights 120lb while each 3600 weights 77lb. More manageable.

Think of it this way. A gas generator does not generate gasoline right? It should be called "gasoline powered electricity generator" and "solar powered electricity generator" but that does not exactly roll off the tongue, so the short form is a reasonable descriptive choice.
