I was looking to get this but I'm surprised by the reviews of people saying the glass carafe explodes or breaks. Anyone have better experiences with this? In the market for a prog coffee maker

Never had that happen. We've had one like this for years and never had any issues.

Several decades ago when Mr. Coffee arrived on the scene, in the '70s, I believe, they were more expensive than now, and, to my knowledge, have always been pretty good, usually costing more than others 'cause the spokesman was the Yankee Clipper for years & years, and I suspect he wasn't cheap. Repped, OP.

I am a big proponent of the idea that you can make excellent coffee at home with decent store-bought ground coffee, common coffee makers like this, and just a little bit of extra knowledge. Biggest things to know (IMO): 1. You get different flavor profiles with basket vs cone style drip coffee makers. Research them and decide what fits your tastes. 2. Last but not least, coffee burns way more easily than you think! Leaving your coffee pot on after it is done brewing will burn your coffee in no time. Simply turning off your coffee pot after it is done brewing is a great way to preserve the just-brewed taste of your coffee. If it gets cold, turn it back on for a minute or two or just pour your cup and put the cup in the microwave for ~30-45 secs).

Most likely thermal shock. They probably washed it with cold water then immediately made coffee.

One of the good things about Mr Coffee coffee makers is that replacement carafes are plentiful and easy to find should a mishap befall yours.

Been looking into something like this. I assume programmable means you can only set the time of the next brew. Does anyone know if there's a coffee brewer where I can set an automatic brew time for M-F without having to do it every night?

This is my regular go to coffee maker in the morning. Have had a few of these over the years. The glass is not the strongest and will break eventually, that's the reason I've had to replace. But never exploded.

Perhaps it's hot glass being rinsed with very cold water making it crack.

I have used this coffee maker as my primary coffee maker for years and in vacation rental homes and never had one break. When I refill it, I make sure it's cool and then add water. When I have done that in a hurry to get another pot of coffee going, it still didn't break for me. I buy these and they last about 2-3 years with 2-3 pots a day brewing) before having issues like water leakage or won't turn on again. For the price, you can beat it.

Yes. A lot of idiots pour cold water into a hot carafe. Darwin stuff. Don't be stupid and you'll be ok.
