I picked one of these up from Best Buy and it's incredible for the price.

Really happy that the battery is replaceable. I had an ICON Pathfinder 280 from Costco and the battery doesn't last more than four hours now and replacing the battery looks to be annoying.

This thing can get LOUD and the bass is really good for a portable speaker. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking at an outdoor speaker.

Why many people are recommending buying 2 of them? Can they by used together or just as a backup?
Yep, you can pair multiples of them.

Is this the one they had for over $400, and occasionally was on sale for around $350. If so this has been in stores for well over a year and I've been waiting for it to go on clearance. They've had several jbl products go clearance, but never this one.

PS
Forget, it is the one. I see list price is $450.

Same price most places. You can get it directly from JBL and get some cashback.
Happy shopping!

Like others stated, u get mic and Costco has a great return policy. Speakers don't fall under their 90day return policy for tech, so u can return it at anytime. Just keep receipt, box paperwork and accessories. It just makes return easier to have everything.

I got the jbl boombox 3, how does this compare. I'm talking sound wise. I know that the boom is not a karaoke machine and maybe not as loud, just want to know sound quality wise.

I wouldn't recommend JBL's smaller speakers, but their Partybox line is pretty much the best of their class.

How does this compare to something like a tribit from Walmart or Amazon for ~$30? I know this one has the microphone but just wondering if it seriously is worth the price difference
... would this be more for public events/obnoxiously loud parties?
The onn Large Party Speaker Gen 2 [walmart.com] for $109 at Walmart is worth consideration. It won't sound as good as this JBL, but it's still a pretty solid value for the money. The Speaker Ranking page above has links to some comparative reviews.

As for what it's for, I have one of these on my back porch, and it's enough to nicely fill my backyard with music, but not so much that I'd be worried about disturbing the neighbors.

Do you think this would work in an elementary school gym? I'm a P.E. teacher and our sound system broke so looking for something that's loud in addition to a wireless mic. Thanks.
For something like a school dance you'd want more, but if it's more just for background music while kids are playing it should be alright. Note that these support Bluetooth Auracast, so you can have more than one wirelessly connected for more output if needed.

I bought this one from target about 5-6 months ago for $120. It was a yellow sticker clearance item at that particular location only. That being said I can see this being valuable for around $200 or so but over that I am not sure if it is worth it. It is pretty good but obviously very heavy. The battery life is not good. 4-5 hours or so.

I had one of these side by side with a JBL Boombox 3 Wifi and an Earfun Uboom X, and when you turn it up it's not even close - the Boombox just gets embarrassed by both of them. If you want something boombox size, look into the Tribit Stormbox Blast, since the Uboom X is sadly discontinued.

You're trippin. There's no compassion. I'm a DJ and use two of these for small karaoke parties. Amazing sound. Well built. A steal at this price. It's a no brainer. I'd buy two if I didn't already own them.
Okay, let me explain…the "average person" here is defined as a regular everyday person who may want something like this for a backyard party, nothing more, so it would actually be better for them to get the Onn at $109 because they are unlikely to notice any significant difference that would have them feeling like they were glad to have spent 2.5X more on the JBL …you being a DJ wouldn't fall in to that category so no one is trippin…

100% for the average person, is worth it. Trust me. You'll have it for years. Pay the extra $100

The average person nowadays would be inclined to purchase the higher quality consumer item with more features. See every teenager walking around with studio quality over the ear headphones nowadays or every Tesla driving adult who could be saving a penny or two in a Honda Fit instead.
