Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 is shaping up as a compact gaming and emulation tablet with a fast Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 8.8 inch 3K 165 hertz display, and strong handheld-friendly size. The IPS panel gets praise for smoothness and overall improvement over earlier Legion Tabs, and the microSD slot adds welcome storage flexibility. The main knocks are the $649.99 price, the 12GB and 256GB configuration, and uncertainty around Lenovo's software update commitment. It feels best suited to gaming-focused buyers who value performance and portability over OLED and top-tier storage.

Grab a controller like the Gamesir G8 Plus and this becomes a cheaper legion handheld.

I get your point, but Mediatek has made great strides when it comes to performance.

I respect the performance levels of the Snapdragon Elite processor, but I've seen that screen in person. Middle of the road quality at best and you're only going to see one or two OS updates from Lenovo.

You're right there's no comparison, but not for the reasons you think.
Maybe for business/media consumption the Samsung tablet is equal to or a better value. However Snapdragon is super for graphics driver compatibility for gaming emulation (consoles) and PC translation layers (running PC games on Android). This is largely due to community Turnip drivers. However, for someone that wants to use a tablet with gaming, Snapdragon is a better choice.

I have the Legion Tab Gen 3 and Gen 5 as well as a Legion Go 2 (OLED). The IPS screen on the Tab 5 is great. I was very pleased with it.

Lenovo is supposedly committing to 4 years of updates and 3 OS upgrades.

no mention of how many OS Upgrades it will receive in the OP - for $650 product, it at least is a good information to be there specially when a 1-year typical warranty gets a space!

I purchased the Gen 3 and it is the best Android tablet I've ever had. It's peppy, plenty of memory, perfect format, great weight, great screen. Can't chime in on the camera because I don't use tablets to take pictures. Very lovely tablet.
Bought it at a great price. The price for the Gen 5 seems a bit steep for me, but that's the case with almost everything these days. It's depressing when you have to go and purchase a PC, a laptop, or a tablet. If you want an alternative to a Samsung that has a fantastic CPU, my gosh, that Elite chip is incredible. I have a previous iteration on my phone and it's amazing.
The pin is decent. It didn't come bundled with a Gen 3, and I bought it, and it's useful, but I don't use it a lot. If that's important to you, you're going to want to go with a Samsung.
So, if you want a very high functioning tablet & the price works for you, you're going to love the Gen 5.
I have both the Gen 3 and Gen 5. The Gen 5 has better battery life, a better screen, better performance and an SD card. I am pleased with the Gen 5 and believe that it was a good purchase. (The Gen 3 was still a fun tablet. I will give it to my son or sell it.)

I've been watching for the last year for the gen 4 to be available globally which we now know is never going to happen.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to pull the trigger on this but I'd rather get the 16GB/512GB configuration. I'd really like to get it directly from Lenovo but unfortunately, that's not available through their website. I'd have to get the Y700 variant from Aliexpress or Giztop. I'd probably lean towards Giztop being the more reliable vendor.

Has anyone purchased from Giztop and can report on their experience and most importantly, the firmware it came with?

I'd also be interested in opinions if it'd still be more beneficial getting the lower configuration directly from Lenovo (e.g. hardware differences like the aforementioned Wifi radio).

Probably going to drop a little more once Red Magic Astra 2 launches in China at the end of the month. $500-550 is the sweet spot for this as it doesn't have OLED.

Depending on your wifi set up, but not being able to use the 6ghz band currently on the Chinese Rom(y700) is a letdown. I'd stick with buying from Lenovo as if you don't like it you can return it easily.

That's a good point. I didn't consider the ease of returning it if necessary

It can via Gamehub, Game Native, or Winlator. It can handle Indies and older AAA well. However newer AAA will give it some thermal and memory challenges (12 GB memory). Whatever you cannot install and play you can stream from your PC or GeForce Now (for many games)

I searched Aliexpress for a 16gb/512gb version but couldn't find it. Do you mind sharing a link? I know they have a coupon right now so after coupon at $600+tax would be great. Thanks.
Sorry for the delay, as a poster said below. The naming in Asia is different. You can search AliExpress with this title " Lenovo Legion Y700 5th Gaming Tablet Original CN Version Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 8.8'' 3K 165Hz Display"Be careful, the Lenovo store has two exact listing but one is $100 more expensive. Get the cheaper one.

How's the level of bloatware on the Legion Tabs, at least any that may require adb to remove?
I've decided to shun Samsung going forward because I'm sick of the constant unremovable bloatware with every update.

I don't have it but I would assume it's much worse than Samsung lol. This tablet at 500 and I'd give it a shot to replace my oled deck as an indie machine and some game steaming from my desktop. 8" is just the perfect size.

Why comment if you dont know. It wasnt a problem on the Legion Tab 5. I got mine last week. Around 2-3 apps that I deleted. My Tab 3 was a bigger issue. Make sure that you turn off app recommendations in the launcher.
If you want to play Indie games and Stream the Tab 3 is fine.

I've purchased many of the Chinese versions, a major issue is that they restrict the WiFi there and you can't get the latest protocols.
What do you mind by "they restrict WiFi"? That's absolutely not true. The access to some websites is restricted (without a VPN) but this has nothing to do with WiFi.
