5V 3A across 7 ports is almost nothing, only good for very small things, maybe one ssd drive.

It's powered, so it should be fine for anything you want to attach outside of things like full HDDs, which come with their own power supplies anyway.

Most portable ssds and such don't now but it's only good for about one and some wireless dongle. Where this suffers is of you don't have a usb charger to connect it to, then the power limit is dire.

"Dire" is a bit much. 15W of additional power is plenty for most things, including most peripheral devices. The bus will provide power where needed, and the extra 15W will handle the overflow.
You might have trouble with multiple NVME dives getting maxed out over 15W but in general, if your bus can handle power for one, the power supply can handle the other.
